OP, grow some thick skin, use the search function, and deal with it. Turbo kids are only here until the next fad hits, then they'll be on to that and let the rest of us enthusiasts get back to business as usual. I drive an N/A 97 lesbo wagon that puts down over 180 at the wheels. I have yet to drive with anyone in a WRX or STI that can lose me through the twisties. Give them something to worry about. But don't worry about straight line speed or huge hp numbers; you'll never get either.

I haven't even been on NASIOC a whole year and I've already realized that this place is littered with both really cool people, and grown ass men who retained their high school mentality. Only fools pride themselves on the vehicle they drive. I drove my riced out 99' honda civic all throughout undergraduate and graduate school and I was happy as can be. Most of the people on here that talk trash are the same ones that ruin themselves financially by abusing a car they can't even afford, don't know the difference between "your" and "you're", and pride themselves on something as petty as a car because that's LITERALLY all they have.
It's sad really. |

I'm a HUGE fan of my NA Subarus (97 Imp L and 00 Imp 2.5RS). Awesome rides that are more streetable and reliable and cheaper than my STi swapped WRX. |

Rich kids who are gifted WRX or STi should not be looked down upon. There will ALWAYS be people who are more fortunate than you and I. If the rich kids actually put the time into his or her car and loves it for what it is, the person should have just as much respect as a person who bought a car with his or her own money. Money should not be a determinant of whether someone should get more respect or not. |

Given your age, you did one of the most intelligent things possible! A 19 year old owning a wrx is a bad, bad idea... Even if they are the best drivers ever, (which they all think they are), they still get to pay the highest insurance rates of ANY demographic. Personally, I don't like tossing money towards insurance for the fun of it.
Its a much better idea to have a car that is safe, reliable, cheap to insure, and cheap to repair. Save the WRX until you are old enough your insurance premiums drop, and you have enough money in the bank to replace a trans/engine without having to skip rent next month. |

Thanks for the feed back everyone. As far as mods go for my car I've done, intake, exhaust, suspension, and wheels. 'ALL' of these mods are for sound and sight. None of my mods have been for performance. And as far as telling me to get thicker skin and ignore everyone goes. I don't care what people say about my car, I do what makes me happy. This thread was solely to inform the ignorant. I actually get more complements than complaints, it's just annoying to hear ignorant people talk out of their asses.

If only motorsports had classing to keep things relative, so that you don't need to worry about the fact that power mods on one car in another class entirely add bigger numbers than they do in your class.
You're wrong in every way. An NA Subaru with an intake and exhaust isn't going to be competing with a FI Subaru with intake and exhaust, it's going to be competing with other NAs. Even if it only nets 10 crank hp, it's still a competitive advantage. It's people who only compete on forums and dynos that think modding an NA is pointless. |

Drop $500+ for 10 chp? It is useless. My point, along with many others, is that IF you want POWER out of a Subaru, get a turbo Subaru. If you're too thick to understand that, you're a moron.

This is exactly the kind of ignorance he's referring to. By your own logic, you're retarded for buying a turbo subaru instead of something that makes power easier. A 1G DSM will destroy your dyno charts all day/night for the same $ investment. As will a Mustang, and will do so while being N/A. |

I'm for the OP, it's your car man, do what you want with it and just ignore what others say. It's not like they're driving, it's your car so do what you want with it. I get harassed because the WRX I have is an automatic. While it does get frustrating that its auto, I still have fun driving it and enjoy my car. Don't let anyone giving **** bother you.

Be proud of your N/a! it's yours and you worked for it and continue to make it yours. I'm 19 and drive an 02 TS, would I like a wrx or sti? Absolutely, can I afford one? Absolutely not. I collected beer cans/bottles and returned them for a year (classy I know) and saved up money from each paycheque so I could buy my own car. I know it's not a wrx or sti and I don't claim it to be or treat it as such. Do what you want with it to make it yours, theres absolutely no shame in that. Unfortunately, some people don't get that, but that's their own problem and not yours OP.

Having a car no matter what kind it is or how expensive it is does not really get you respect - maybe jealousy and a few looks, but respect -no way.
People get cars for different reasons - enjoy your car and who cares what others say. I have three cars and can afford a way more expensive car, but I DD my 04 wagon subie which I have had since May 23, 2003. It has 90K and I love it. Most think it is an ugly grocery getter - but I like it. I paid this thing off 5 years ago - its practically paying me with how reliable it is and the fun with a Stage 2 e-tune and suspension mods. Also carries my MTN bike, kayak and boat for fishing. If you buy a car for respect your a poser - simple as that. |

keep your 2.5!!!! wait till after college or a few years to buy a wrx or sti, dont waste your settlement money on a car! see if you can invest some of it. (from a 27 year old that wished he hadn't wasted money on a car in his early 20s) you can get something really badass in a few years

Having owned a '02 2.5 as my first Subaru, I would suggest you go and get some instruction. Autocross school or a local Performance Driving school. That alone will do more for you speed than any bolt ons.
That being said, this is what I did to my car... CAI...maybe 5 hp Cat back exhaust...maybe 5 hp Light weight Pulley...no hp gains but it felt like it reved quicker. Sway Bars...get the endlinks and bushings too. Get better brake pads Lightweight wheels and some good summer performance tires...Number one for a competitive edge Go and get some instruction. Autocross school or a local Performance Driving school. That alone will do more for you speed than any bolt ons. |

So based on some individuals views in this thread regarding modding a N/A subaru, one could say it is pointless to mod a BRZ? It's a N/A subaru, right? So should anyone that posts about power mods on a BRZ be told they are stupid and should buy a WRX or STi, and that power mods are useless on a BRZ..... Stirring the pot. 2.5i FTW! I love mine and always will. As stated its pretty great/decent for mpg. I will most likely be keeping mine for a DD until I can afford to upgrade and pay for the increase of insurance. It's your car so do what you want with it and screw the haters. They will never stop hating. All these wrx/sti guys are just jealous that they dumped all their money into their car to get massive hp and incredibly bad hp :P i kid, I would probably do the same

I'm going to go a little off-topic here.
You mentioned that you are going to be getting a settlement from your previous accident and you intend to pay off the loan with said settlement. I would recommend against doing that. Paying the loan off as scheduled will be better for your credit. You'll end up with a longer record of credit and the loan will stay on your credit report longer. Don't miss a payment and pay it off on the original payment schedule. You'll end up with better credit in the long run. Use your settlement to help pay for college (if you're going) or put it into savings so you have a bit of a safety net if **** goes all wonky on you. |
