Ohhh, Eurocarver!!

I've tried narrow race boards a few times over the years and I have so little confidence and stability that I quickly give them back. Maybe I'll break out my 142 lunch tray with a 26" duck stance.

I'll be going to Snow for their opening day Friday, assuming it doesn't rain.

wow!

I always wanted to try a carving board, especially the Burton stuff. So how's it like going from a soft binding + free-style board to a hard boot + carving board?

maybe one day I'll divert my car mod fund back into snowboard equipment.

My brother used to ride for Burton. Halfpipe.

You ski at Wachusett? I have a pass and ski there weekday mornings.

It's also nice to see some glare ice and think to yourself, "finally, some of the good stuff!" - then leave a 2" deep track in it.

The change really is like going from a Subaru to a Ferrari. You'll be able to turn like you would never have imagined, but you can't rally with it.
Interesting... I am like you, I cannot pull air tricks. I'm still learning to land. But I love the speed. So you can still carve through ice on the board?!?! Damn! I need to demo one... But no one ever has carving boards for demos...

I've always had much trouble going on ice with my current setup. Carving boards sounds like it will fix that problem.

thats alot of board...

that reminds me that i really need a new board. I'm on last years Nidecker Smoke 58XL. Little bit of a de-lam problem behind my front binding, it'll hold up hor a while till I can allocate some funds for a new board. I'm so glad that companies are starting to realize how stupid Cap boards and move away from that design. In the last 2 seasons, I have had 3 boards De-Lam: 2 Smoke XLs and a K2 Wisdom Wide. I was most pissed about the Wisdom, that board ruled.

No one demos or owns these boards. I dropped off the board @ Strand's in Worcester yesterday, picked it up this morning, and they already knew me as "the guy with the race board." Hell, when I was at Stowe last winter, I tried to demo a Burton race board. Burton has a HUGE demo center there. They didn't have a single carving board or hard boot. These boards really are a niche product, but they are sooooooo nice to ride, IMO.
Cool. No one I knew ever explained a carving board to me before. So thanks for doing so. I guess I'll have to find a used setup or just plunge into it. But I'm thinking that'll drop me $1.5k. I basically ride my soft binding setup like how I'd like to ride a carving board anyways. *shrug*

I try to do this too but it gets kind of difficult man, but maybe that's cos i'm not very good.

Anyone wanna trade a nice carving board setup for an 01 K2 Zeppelin 159 with Ride Preston LX bindings ?

well, I've only have success doing this on semi-soft surfaces. I'm on my face when I attempt this on ice. I just don't understand how going to a longer and skinner board, I will be able to carve ice. Is it more board? or more technique?

Also, if you're near Worcester, I'd loan you a board if you can find boots & bindings to ride.
Thanks dood. Too bad I have size 10.5 feet. Thanks for the tips and your offer. I'll try to take you up on your offer... But if I have my own hard boots + binds, I might as well find a board to finish off the set.

I think the longer carving boards carve a larger radius than our shorter and more curved freestyle boards.

That would imply a couple of things for us...

I'm sure really good technique can carve on any freestyle board though. I too can only carve on either soft snow.

Thats because you brought it to Strands! Most snowboarders don't even notice that place. They all drive right by and go to EB or Concrete Wave. The guys at Strands are cool. I've got a good friend who used to work there. All those guys are hard core old school skiers.

The meaning behind my name: I'm a bump skier from the east. Those west coast kids got nothin on us. They've never tackled White Heat...now thats a bump run!

Post Carving boards!!

SWEAT boards! I can't wait to start the season.

This year I'll be riding a Volkl RennTiger SL 163 with Bomber Trench Digger Step-ins. When I'm not ripping on my RT, I'll be on my Volkl P50's!

Yeah, I like to go fast!

PS-For you carvers, check out this web site: Bomber Online

EDIT: Carving on Ice: it's a combination of technique and equipment. A carving setup will allow you to transfer more pressure to the edge (Hardboots, stiff bindings) and thus get better edge hold in all conditions. A good technique uses the tools to their highest potential.

If you go to the link above, there are all kinds of great articles by Jack Michaud and others on how to carve, etcetera.

Dig 'em deep!

cool site! more stuff to drool over.

I am such a n00b to this stuff, I've never heard of any (well, almost) of these companies... If you ppl don't mind, can anyone do some brief reviews of the stuff they own? Much appreciated.

I'm a Volkl snob, so I'm biased here. However, I've heard great reviews on Volkl, Donek, Niddekker(sp?) , and Prior. Most of the carvers I know prefer to stay away from Burton, but I have heard great reviews about the Factory Prime.

As far as bindings go, it seems that the most desired gear is from Bomber(what I have) and Catek. Very stiff, very strong stuff from those companies. The Burton Race plates are good (I also have a set) but they are flexible, and I worry about the plastic breaking.

My only experience with boots is an old pair of Rossi ski boots, which were horrible for carving a snowboard, and a new pair of Raichle snowboard boots which rock!

If anyone has any questions, or would like to chat about carving, email me [email protected], or IM me at yahoo messenger or AIM.

Yeah, the shop i go through was real good about getting me a new board. It's just this is my 3rd delam, 2nd Nidecker and i'm kinda fed up. I'm gonna move on to another line, something wide, without a cap design.
