Your problem with the dashboard indicator is also pretty much in line with others - it reads about 10% optimistic, I guess to please those not good enough in math to figure it out themselves. Combining the two errors the dashboard indicator is about 8% optimistic. As far as your mpg, you must have the cvt. There are some here who are apparently incapable of hand calculations and get their 5 speeds mixed up with the better proclaimed mpg of the cvt, and so say the cvt "is pretty close" to advertised but comparing to other cars it is way off. Conjecture is since the cvt can be "tuned" it was tuned to maximize mpg on the EPA test without regard to reality, as you are pretty much in line with the majority of other cvt drivers on this board. Mpg of the cvt is indeed sadly lacking. It will get 1 to 2 mpg better, but that's about it. I am curious what happens with I replace the fluids with a Group IV synthetic.

I haven't checked the Impreza, but you might find that the OBDII speed reading is correct, and the speedometer is slow. |

I think that's why the speedometer reads fast and the odometer reads slow when the tires are half worn, and the speedometer is right with new tires while the odometer is right with no tread left. Both are worst case errors, but right on with the appropriate conditions.

Here is the milage we are getting with ours, it has the CVT.
The lite gray line is what the dash display mpg was. Just about every tank was 87. The last tank was 89. |

I apologize but can you summarize the results.. Not sure what they represent? What are your findings?

I don't really have any results. I was just sharing the mpg from our 2012 w/CVT since new to add to the discussion. My one observation, and I think it has been discussed here, is that the reported mpg by the onboard computer is higher then what the real mpg is. The white line is the calculated mpg and the red line is the trend line. The grey line is the trip computer mpg. Not suprisingly the milage has dropped as we got into the winter. |

I should note that the wifes commute to work is 35 miles, with 15 minute of back roads, 15 minutes of highway and then 15 minutes of back roads, one way. So the milage is made up of that driving and a few longer trips on the highway on weekends.
I am impressed and disappointed with the mpg vs what was on the window sticker. Even more so when my 2012 focus is averaging 32 mpg over 14k miles. However, for being awd I am impressed with the mpg. |

Looking like around 32-33mpg (primarily interstate set at 73mph) for day so far, and above 30mpg for the entire trip, not too shabby for my little 5sp :-)

Just got home; 2050.8 miles, 69.2 gallons, 29.6mpg.
First 350 miles were 80ish mph Next 400 was 67-68mph Then 100 miles @ 40-50mph on snowy roads. 250 in town/to from Rocky mountain national park/ etc etc Remaining miles 73mph driving home. I'm pleased I should also add, the trip computer I had set for this trip reported 29.7mpg, so between my 2.9% odometer correction and the 3% adjustment I had the dealer make, I'm pretty much reporting correct mpg Last edited by flyboy1100; 12-31-2012 at 05:44 AM. |

we do not use ethanol. My wife drives it daily, about 20 miles to work (country roads) some town driving. Last summer we took a day trip to Minneapolis (about 350 mi round trip mostly
interstate. The dash trip had not been reset for a couple of weeks and read 39 mpg. I drove mostly about 75mph when we got home it had climbed to 42 mpg. we have tested it many times with always the same results. I'm left scratching my head when i read most of this thread. I cant explain it. and I'm a lead foot driver! |

Hand calculate the mileage a few times. I'll bet it drops a bit. |

On the whole, I am skeptical of the actual mpg, as to go from 400 miles at 39 mpg to a total of 42 mpg for the 750 miles means the 350 miles were at least 45 mpg, and at 75 mph... Methinks calibration of the dash gauge is in order... |
