v9 is 06-07, right? Are these the same years that USDM cars had bearings with less lead and spun a bunch of bearings in the 2.5L turbos?
Could be a worldwide enviro-lead-reduction thing. What oil were people running? I hope not xW30 energy conserving oil, then spinning 8k. |

No you can plug them into as many as you want. You do however want to make sure it's for your year, model and correct transmission (auto/manual) You can get other to work but getting to to fit your exact criteria would be best scenario.

Didn't think it was a secret if someone mentioned it before I did. Plus, what's the big deal? I spun my bearing a few weeks before he did. New crew!!!

My V8 comes in tomorrow. First I've got to replace/modify a few things(timing belt, broken cover, 3port bcs, dp, etc) but will need an etune next week until a tuner travels my way(FL) . Who is the recommended e-tuner for these ej207s?

That was who I was gonna go with(heard great things), if only I could get him to make a FL run again. No rush on the tracking, just wanted to know it shipped as my V8 comes in tomorrow and I want to complete the swap over the weekend.

Also searching this thread and the engine management section, there is conflicting views. Can/has anyone used the Vag com cable to flash in an 02 with a V8? Ive been logging for years with it but cant use the AP anymore.

Care to share details on your engine fail, how long did it run after install, what oil, any idea as to why it failed, was your car on an e tune ?

I only drove it just under 100 miles. A little over 80 of those miles was my commute to the tuner. Two pulls on the dyno and then in between the 2nd and 3rd pull on idle the 'tick' emerged. We quickly shut her down. Fortunately for me, the damage stayed at the block. Heads were perfect when I opened everything up.
I was running Castrol Sythentic blend I forget the weight right now. I was unable to find any T6 locally till after my engine failed On the total 100 miles I drove her I baby shifted and never past 3300rpms. All on the jdm ecu. I put 5 gallons of 110 octane for the first start up and 20 miles. When I was going down for the tune I filled up with Sunoco 93. |

Thanks for the info, sorry to hear, guess you are rebuilding it. Did you find the engine was clean inside like it was well taken care of by the previous owner ? I was terrified my engine would also die on the EFI logics dyno when it was getting tuned. I now realize they flash a safe baseline tune before they start pushing the motor. I guess anything is possible despite all the best efforts to avoid issues and things do go wrong at times with this old engines. The best of luck to you sir.

I think there could be another common variable here
I think the oil pickup that is used on version 8/9 jdm motors is the same part code for the one on usdm Sti motors. During the shipping process it could cause more strain on the oil pickup possibly leading to a failure when the motor starts to be tuned. Just a random idea I had at work. |

Installing my killer b oil pickup, or attempting to and once I removed the manifold noticed that there is some liquid in the header in the back two cylinders. Maybe bad valve seals, maybe cleaning solution got in there thru a leak, maybe the vendor poured oil in the back two to make the compression test come out a little better.....How alarmed should I be?

Ok, checked/changed the plugs and the same two cylinders that had oil in the exhaust had oil on the plugs. Im guessing valve stem seals. Not a huge deal, hopefully. Pic, front(go on the back of the motor) two plugs have oil on the business end.

My vendor offered a 60 day. I'm going to do the timing belt and then throw it in.

Here is an example twin scroll downpipe jig using some scrap wood. It's based off of a V9 downpipe (USDM length) and makes it very easy to build a 3" downpipe with the ebay stainless elbow.
