No worries. I smoked a joint in my dorm room and got caught. The reason? Fan was blowing out a closed window. pwned by all the RA's.

They also have "24 hour courtesy" if its anything like my old school. Basically anyone can ask you to turn your **** down and you have to.

that sucks. my RA had his jacket on and was going out with his GF, maybe I should turn it back up. I know all my Ras and hall directory really well, I should fight this BS. and no, no 24 courtesy. we have a strict 10pm-10am quiet hours rule. I am well within and well within reason on the sound level. |

On the real though, one of my neighbors listens to rap and one listens to rock.
More like he plays rock on his electric guitar. The rock playing neighbor cranks his up and i can barely hear it through the wall, but outside it is UNGODLY loud. On the other hand the guy that plays the rap has a lot of bass in his songs, so the sounds transfer unmolested through my wall, but it is at about the same volume as the other guy. I tell the rap guy to turn it down. Why? cause i dont like my head pounding while im napping. Point is, what are you listening to? Maybe it is diferent from his point of view. |

Listening to everything, a few rap songs. bass wasnt pounding but it was higher than I normally have it. I turned it back down to 0 and have my jazz back up to a reasonable level (but not as loud as before)
he can go **** himself now. |

Yeah, bass really does go through walls a lot easier than you think. If he says anything now tell him to screw off.

Noise rules were never really enforced in my dorm until finals week. And it was always the biggest offenders over the rest of the semester who complained the most during finals week
<--always had 6am crew practice and never said a word. |

not sure, we have drywall walls, but they ARENT as cheap as the piece of **** 1/8th inch wood panels in my old dorm.
They block a LOT fo sound, as i cant EVER hea rmy neighbors unless they bump their arm into the wall hard 9we do that ocne in a while since our beds are agains the walls) other than that the only sounds i hear frmo neighbors are the mega powerflush toilets which we can hear through the bathroom exhaust vents. But the walls are well insulated |

People often don't understand how well bass travels through walls. I recommend headphones for those who like rich bass and want it loud. Otherwise, cut out all the bass if you want it loud.
I, for one, can't stand any bass coming through the walls. |

Indeed, i'm about ready to blame the bass now too for the complaint.
I had speakers in my dorms back in the day going, just on my computer, which had a 3" sub that sat on the ground... I was on the 3rd floor, all cement building. I had the volume at THE LOWEST setting possible before you couldnt hear anything at all... Still got a complaint about it, and switched to headphones and havent used anything else since. |

Back in college we had the same rules, but apparently there was a lesser known "music from your room shouldn't be heard on other floors 24/7" rule. We got busted for breaking that one.
