Rubbing noise and tapping noise coming from engine bay. (OPEN TO READ MORE)
Ok, so I just went out on lunch break and when I started up my car I heard a rhythmic rubbing noise I guess you would call it. It lasts for less than a minute, and it happened after the car was sitting for 3 hours (Time before my lunch break) and for 30 seconds (pulled back in to the parking lot, waited 30 seconds and turned the car on again). I popped the hood to investigate and found nothing, but its dark out and I couldn't see much. Has anyone else had this trouble? Also when I turn off my car I can hear a taping noise coming from the passenger side glove box area. My coworker came out while I was looking at my engine and I asked him to turn it off while I looked at the engine for this noise too. When he turned it off I believe the air box taps against the body to make the noise. I did the intake silencer removal mod and I think that is what is causing it. Does anyone else who did silencer delete mod have the same noise?
Thanks, Adam

drive any car and then turn it off.... you will hear ticking
the rubbing is another issue... you said it only lasted a minute, so is it gone now? i've had the plastic shielding (from fenderwells and under the car) rub before. scissors did the trick |

Every time I turned on the car sense I noticed the noise (3 times now) the rubbing noise occurs for 30 seconds to a minute.

the tapping you are hearing is the downpipe cooling behind the turbo I bet. What kind of rubbing, metalic? Rubber what? Do you have a strut tower bar? Maybe its that rubbing the intercooler..

I dont think the tapping noise is the downpipe because it dosent sound like a metal click more muffled (Hense why I think its the air box hitting the body pannel on the inside of the engine bay).
No tower bar, but it sounds maybe like a rubber belt? I dont know exactly... P.S. JDMviola, your just fantastic, thanks for telling me something I already know... But you know what (YOU CANT READ THE WHOLE POST) Wow... whoda thunk that... Everyone else, Thanks |

I would guess that the noise that goes away after 30 seconds to a minute after starting the car could be something loose, like an exhaust piece. After the car starts to warm the metal could expand, thus negating the looseness. I'm not sure if 30 seconds is long enough for that to happen but I just thought I'd share my thought.

I think i read something on cold start clicking noise. I know when I start my car and it is cold out it makes a noise. It has done this since the car was stock...but do a search on this. Hopefully this is it. Also you may want to list any mods you have.

Is there snow on the roads where you are. When I get a lot of snow and ice under my car I get all kinds of noises after it refreezes. Mostly a lot of tapping noises until the entire drive train warms up enough to melt the ice.
