I wasn't questioning if it was real or not it just had that look. your dad has some kicks ass cars! He's got the Bentley GT too right? I would be shooting those all the time if I had the chance!

$2899 was too hard to pass up.
Now to decide if I want to keep my MkII or get another 7D. |

I can't wait to have a 7D one day! I just got my flash on Monday, so that's been keeping me busy.

I get to order a set of Alienbees too.
I only have to shoot 10 weddings to pay off everything I'm buying this week. |

I don't know how you guys shoot weddings. I feel that it would be a lot of pressure to get perfect pictures. I get stressed trying to get awesome pictures of my kids!

LOL. Well done sir.
What I really need is a better performing low light camera. Inside my house I;m at 3200 ISO and shooting at f/1.8 to get my shutter speed even above 1/100. It's getting really frustrating with the slow AF and noisy pictures. |

Well, now that it's winter, it is pretty much impossible for me to take a photo of my car during daylight hours during the week. Because of this, I have started trying to play with some night time shots. So far I think I'd consider my first two attempts as failures, but I do think I'm learning a few things.
Here's the first try. Obviously night time and very dark. This one I tried a 30 second exposure and using a single SpeedLite fired many times (probably two dozen). I simply walked around and fired it off. I tried all sorts of different power levels, and this is the best I got. It looks OK, but not great. I think black is very hard for this technique (also my car was filthy). Second try was finding a parking lot with a little more light and doing a long exposure. I tried to park to get as much light on the back of the car as I could. I ended up doing 20-30 second exposures at ISO100 and f/2.8. Again these look OK, but not great. The color just looked off, and I couldn't seem to correct it properly so I just turned down the saturation and went with it (also, car still not clean, lol). Overall not that happy with the results, but I don't think they turned out too horrible. I still need to work on the different techniques a lot, but maybe someday I can take decent night photos. I think I might try light painting next. I'll need to find a good light for that... |

Biggest thing IMO is just looks super filthy but now it's winter time it's not as easy to keep it spotless I suppose. The shots aren't that bad at all as well.

Not a question or comment about the pictures but a question about your rubber. If I'm not mistaken those are Altimax Arctics, correct? If you have run those in previous winters how would you rate them on a scale 1-10? 10 being the best.

I don't think they look too bad at all! Especially if this is a first or near first try. Black is a really challenging color to get lit properly. You must have great recycle times (or using a lower power setting) on your light to get to fire it off a dozen times in 30 seconds! But, in all seriousness I highly recommend getting a high-output 5500k flashlight. Or even rig up a white fluorescent tube light to 12v of battery power and use that. You could also get a little soft box for strobes (I forget the manufacturer's name) to use either with your strobe or with this flashlight I keep recommending to people. And you might try bumping your ISO up to 200.

Do you have any recommendations for a flashlight? Preferably something I could get on Amazon, or locally? I'm not really seeing much come up? If there are any good battery powered tube lights I would also consider that. |

Would light painting give you more even lighting? (depending on how well you use the light of course) It seems like using a flash would make the lighting super harsh. I don't know much about this, I'm curious and would like to learn though.
