Yeah, and theres no point what so ever to flipping the plastic manifold around. Its not easier to work on, the piping isnt any shorter and looks like poo imo. Theres plenty of GCs out there with reversed metal manifolds. If your going to do it..do it so it doesnt look like a giant pos plastic manifold is your engine.
CBrodie14..theres one of those manifolds on your 09 wrx!! |

Do you have problems tuning your MAF with it so close to the compressor of the turbo?

Not for sure on that, mine was just in for mocking up and now tuning for speed density.

I have an 05 WRX. When I dropped the alternator to its lowest setting in an attempt to get the 34" belt on, the alternator housing was pushing down on the A/C belt.
Anyone else run into this issue and if so how did you fix it? |

Common issue. Just grind the alternator case to clear it.

Ok I guess I misunderstood it to grind the top of the alternator for the TB but its the bottom by the belt too that needs it. Got it, thanks.
Too many pages of reading made brain confused. |

I ground down the alternator case and a portion of the bracket it attaches to to get my alternator to go as low as possible. Get creative and remove material as necessary.

I cant get the throttle body to close. I have cables as far back as they can go. I am using a 1/2" spacer. Any suggestions?

If the spacer is on the tb then ditch the spacer. You should cut off those coolant pipes on the tb too, it will give you some more room.

EJ18 question
Hey guys, im new to the site, and sort of new to Subaru engines, but I'm a welder by trade and have a fair amount of general mechanical experience. Ive read thru as much of the 74 pages of this thread as i can stand...so i have a few questions
So...I'm building a vw bug rat rod with a freshly built n/a EJ18. I want to reverse the intake so it faces the rear of my car. So my question is a simple one, if I use a 8mm Phenolic spacer, do i still have to flip the ALT, or can I leave it centered? Also, im not using A/C, p/s, brake booster, ect...so I was hoping someone could give me a basic rundown of how the procedure should go, so I know I'm not missing something. Ive changed the coolant manifold to face the opposite side of the motor, I was thinking of cutting back the hardlines to clear the coolant manifold bolts and re flaring them or eliminating them into high psi rubber. Advice? Also, my buddy that built me the motor kinda got busy with work and left me with trying to figure out the details here, so if someone has a good diagram of the manifold lines that would be killer. Im running a Halteck E6K ECU and would like some advice as to how to figure out my 'new' injector order, or the change rather. Any map settings tips would be great too. Thanks in advance, its my first post! Last edited by Kermatt; 03-14-2013 at 03:50 AM. |

Glad I could direct you here. Check out my photo bucket album for a ton of ej1.8 build pics, maybe you can find what you need for the lines in there.

I should cut them off but there not really in the way. Besides I may return to stock one day so one less part to replace. |

remove the spacer. Its not doing you any good and is causing more problems. Why would you take a bracket to a machine shop?
If you return to stock, there still no need for coolant to pass through the tb. |
