Timing Belt Problem
Last week I heard this rubbing and clicking noise near my pulleys, and belts from inside the engine bay. I pull the driver side timing belt cover, and find this shredded mess! Damn.. timing belt seems to have slipped off and started rubbing against the cover. Okay, so I spend my birthday replacing my timing belt. A week later, (today) I start my car, ready to go jog. Crap. I'm hearing that noise again. I pull the cover off, and it's getting shredded again!
Anybody know what's going on here? What would cause a timing belt to slip off it's pulleys? The tensioner maybe? This is a longblock I bought from a wrecking yard after SOA denied my warranty. 4eat (no timing belt guide), and 45k on the motor. Any ideas?

I do know it should be covered under your powertrain warranty. Look in your owners manual in the warranty coverage pamphlet, timing belt should be listed under there.
sounds like one of the pulleys may be damaged or misaligned. Jay |

I'm 100 miles past powertrain on my car, ... and it's a different motor. The longblock I bought has 45k on it. Damn.

bummer.
well you'll have to pull everything apart again and take a good look at all the teeth on all the pullys, make sure they have all their teeth, and none are chipped, if you put a new belt on take a good look at it installed and make sure its lined up properly. Jay |

Thanks for the advice. I didn't think about looking at the pulley teeth. When i had everything off, it seemed fine to me, but I didn't look at the teeth on the pulleys. It seems to have been slipping around the middle, below the crank pulley, near that idler. I could see where the belt was rubbing against the timing belt cover. I think I just might take it to a dealership and have them look at it. Any idea how much that would run?
