350+ WHP Reliability?
I have not posted here in a long while and this is my favorite forum by far!
Anyways, for those of you running 350+ whp STI how reliable has the car been and have you had to build the block or any of the internals???? If you have had no problems how long has your car been at that power level??? Thanks for the feedback...... Last edited by redzfit; 10-21-2011 at 08:08 PM. |

Reliable is not fesable on a stock block above 350+ WHP. It becomes not a matter of if, but when you will break it.

I would say 350WHP is at the limit. However it depends on your setup and tune. Also how you drive. If you want to be safe invest in at least a built shortblock.

I've been at around 350WHP for about 10k miles on my 2011 WRX, and around 400WHP for almost 1k now. Stock motor. Still doing OK, but I don't know how long it will last. Motor build in the plans soon...

Just out of curiosity, are we talking 350 on dynojet readings or mustang? I'm currently pretty close to 350 on dynojet, my ultimate goal is around 325-350 on a mustang, am I asking for too much out of my car? I really don't want to build my motor/tranny at this time.

I was at 352 for 40k, and have been at 375 for over 10k...stock internals. Invest in a very good tune.....
But, it's only a matter of time...I agree. |

I love everything about the Subie including the sound but it seems like the Evo X is more mod friendly and reliable for 350+ whp..... |

I was around 350WHP on a Dynojet, so it would have been in the low 300's on a Mustang.
With the new turbo I did 390WHP on a Mustang, so I'd probably be into the low 400's on a Dynojet. Again, no idea how long it will last.... |

Pre 08's will last longer at 350whp than 08+ cars. The pistons in the pre-08s are nothing special and will crack ringlands eventually... but the 08+ pistons are an embarrassment. I cracked a piston on stage 1 and cracked a second piston on stage-2 (2011 sti).
350whp is a lot of power no matter what, and you will be on a relatively short countdown to rebuild regardless of the year. Really depends on how abusive you are. If you want 350whp and you want to hammer the !@#$ out of the thing at every opportunity, build the block. Last edited by hoeser; 10-23-2011 at 01:55 PM. Reason: edit. |

I've been driving on 330whp for atleast a year now no problems whats another 20 hp ya know. I believe its all on your choise of parts and tune. I think it is completely possible. However there is always a chance for failure after all these are only machines and they break normally yet alone modified.

This is one thing that makes me upset, other cars such as. 8th gen civic Si, Evo x's and many more can hold over 350whp with no problem. Civic Si's doing close to 600whp on stock internals while a scoobie. Can barely hold 350?

Difference a scoobie is awd and extremely reliable. FWD OR RWD vehicles can shake off resistance spinning tires thus less strain on the engine. EVO's are dead after 50k lol so what more do you want? If all you want is power go buy an evo. If you want class and reliability stick to a subaru.

if anything, put on a DP and tune it to that, and just drive it. Less mods, less headache.
Or just leave it stock.... keep it maintained, last long time.... |

It all depends on the tune. I have been on 400whp for exactly a year right now on stock internals. Approx 20k miles.

I had 370 WHP (Dynojet) for 90K miles, and the internals were all still fine when I pulled the engine. A broken oil pickup did it in.
