What did everyone run at Bandimere today?

Oh and if people could also include what the weather was like up there today. Thanks

14.520ET @94.54mph/ 60' @ 2.08secs.
I was sure I would break into the 13's today. A lesson in humility. Haven't figured out the Blitz Dual solenoid yet. Excuses Excuses. At least I beat a WS6 T/A (14.95) in the process. A few people came over after the race and lauded the event. Must call Shiv. Unacceptable time. It was windy and a little chill. I met some other I-clubbers for the first time. Hey Guys. Accidentally put leaded fuel in my car, drained and refueled with 104 unleaded. No damage........yet. Also beat a modded DSM. The DSM crew had 2 solid 12 second street performers in the stables.

Hey Harvey, those times are not too impressive for Stage 0. What were your other numbers? I'm thinking the stock turbo just does not have the top end for this altitude. Messing around I haven't seen a big diffrence between running 15 to 16.5 peak PSI. I should have made it out. Oh well, next time.

13.91@97 .. 1.91 60'
I had a dead batt in the laptop so I couldn't log or make any changes with the Link. Was on the conservative street map =\ I also put the stock muffler section back on last week in place of the scoobysport axleback. I'd say it cost me at least a tenth with the 1820 trying to push through the stock peashooter. STi squirters go in next Saturday. |

Ya, you definitely got a nice time last week.
I could make all kinds of excuses as to why I didn't do any better. I started to earlier. Not my style, though. I'll make some changes and try, try again. |

Well,
Long story... When I dropped off the car for the Chalak gears last week I gave SubySports a new clutch friction disk to use with my ACT pressure plate because my old clutch was slipping. When I picked up my car this last Tuesday Braden said the old friction disk was still pretty good (although he used the new one per my request), but that my ACT pressure plate was on it's "last legs". He didn't have a new complete clutch in stock, so he decided that we could get the ACT to last another 15-20K miles. After throwing my alternator belt on the way to the drags, and replacing it at the autoparts store, by the time I made it to the drag strip it was after 11:00am. I was over 2 hours late and discovered that they were so many participants that they were having three run groups take turns with about 1 run every 3 hours. I was there over 5 hours and only got two runs. I originally thought I'd get about 5-6 runs to learn the 15% taller gears and new launch technique but wasn't meant to be Well, the clutch still slips with hard launches, and the only way to get a good launch without burning up the clutch is to rev it up and drop the clutch and induce wheelspin instead. At the drag strip it was so sticky that I could only break the front tires loose with a 5,000 rpm launch, and then would bog down and lurch a couple of times before really taking off. The 15% taller 1st gear makes it harder to launch, as the 3.18 ratio is even taller than a WRX 1st gear which is a 3.45 ratio. On one of the runs I missed the shift to 4th and shifted down to 2nd from third at 82mph by accident, and not knowing what happened (whether I missed a gear or blew something up at 8,500 rpm) I coasted through the lights in neutral with a 15.1 @ 65mph (with a 1.8 sec 60 foot). So, with only one decent run out of two today the best I did was a 13.9 @ 97 which was my first run on the new tranny, bogging down on the launch (1.9's 60 foot when my best ever is a 1.801). This is slower than the time I ran with #4 piston cracked and could only build 8-9 psi of boost! = Bad Driver Syndrome... Also, with the boost controller all the way up, this morning on the way to the drags it was cold enough to get 14+ psi, but by the warmer afternoon all I was seeing was 10 psi in 1st and 11-12 psi in the other gears. At least this is 2-3 psi more than I was building last summer on three cylinders, but it didn't help me any. I contacted John Cox, formerly of JC Sports, about a custom 3" downpipe with his uncle Brian the welder, to better match my 3" Brullen catback and allow me to build more boost. His recommendation is to first gut the second cat on my 2.5" downpipe - stating that when they did this to another car they got several more psi of boost from it by relieving the backpressure and improving flow. Not sure I wanna gut one of the two cats, but he swears I will still pass emissions with one 3-way cat. Nevertheless, rather than break out the second cat I am thinking about maybe selling this downpipe, up-pipe and turbo-IC pipe for a "gen 3" JCS setup, or WRX headers/up-pipe with turboback and a legacy turbo crossmember. I plan to try Pueblo Motorsports Drag Strip next time, on one of their Friday PM test and tune nights, as I hear it is not as busy. I wont be happy till I run a 12.99 at high altitude, and my best of 13.7 is only good for a 13.2 at sea-level. I suppose the best time to gut the 2nd cat is when Braden puts in a new clutch pressure plate. Yikes! More money to spend... Larry |

I just want you all to know how UTTERTLY DISSAPOINTED I am in ALL OF YOU!!! You all need to spend MORE TIME AND MONEY. I don't want too see ANYTHING less than a 12.99 next time from ANYONE. Do I make myself CLEAR?!?!?! [/dissapointed mother voice tone off] Just kidding . *Flame suit on* for those who can't take a joke [heh]. Glad to hear that there were quite a few WRX's up at Bandi showing up some of the F-body's . |

Boost O.K.
Pharmco, I spoke to Shiv today ( a very sleepy jetlagged Shiv ) and we agreed that altitude just kill timeslips. My other times were descending from 15.2-15.1-14.7. I can boost at 16 pounds all day with the new controller but that wouldn't help the engine last. My personal view on the matter is this: I grew up drag racing my 383 powered '70 cuda in Oklahoma. I pulled consistent 13.8 ET for years. My new high altitude best was 15.7ET. The WS6 T/A I raced yestersday can pull a 13.5ET according to Motor Trend, his run was a 14.9. My WRX with only Vishnu 0 and SBC-ID should run mid 13ET at sea level but instead pulls 14.5. If someone tells you that a car only loses one tenth for every thousand feet ask to see the comparative timeslips for the same car.
Sorry David, I really was trying for thirteens, honest. |
