Default about stock stereo

I want to keep my stock head unit because I like to have a 6 disc indash unit, but I want a better sound quality , not the tincan sound from stock speakers. Do you guys now what kind of speakers I could installed? Components?
I am not the type of person that likes to impress other around with the sound blasting, I just want good quality sound inside the car.

Any suggestions?

I have Infinity Reference speakers all around (tweeters, 6.5 front, 4 rear) with the stock stereo and it sounds much better. Actually it doesn't sound all that bad but with a real stereo it would sound a lot better.

I think down the line, you're going to have to replace the stock Head Unit. I just installed an Alpine 9827 (with the stock speakers) and there is a definite difference. The stocker just doesn't have the power to drive any good quality speakers.

Hi,

I have similar kind of requirements with a few additions for my audio system upgrade on 2003 Subaru Impreza Wagon.

--> will be installing the in-dash 6 disc CD changer from Subaru
--> will retain the the stock HU
--> planning to get an amplifier which can go under passenger
seat
--> upgrade my speakers (front and rear)

I would appreciate it very much if some one can tell me if I can do the above while retaining the stock HU.

Has anyone installed an amplifier under the passengers seat ?

Thank you,
lvrk

Memorize this: GIGO... Garbage In, Garbage Out. It sounds like you give a damn about sound quality. Eventually you will replace the HU. Or you may choose to feed your amps from an i-pod or similar device instead...

I have an amp under each front seat, lots of wagoneers install there. What do you want to know in particular?
