Default Listen to the 7.0-liter V8 Soundtrack of the New 2014 Camaro Z/28

Carscoop: http://www.carscoops.com/2013/03/lis...ck-of-new.html

Quote:
Billed as the most track-focused production model in the Camaro's history, the spanking-new Z/28 is the poster child of the redesigned 2014 model of Chevrolet's muscle car series that was released at this week's New York Auto Show
We've seen the new Camaro Z/28 and read the preliminary specs, so how about we give you a taste of what its C6 Corvette Z06-sourced and hand-built 7.0-liter V8 sounds like? If that…sounds interesting, make the jump over the break to watch the video.

The Z/28's eight-cylinder lump is rated at an estimated 500 horsepower (373 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), with the only transmission choice being a row-your-own gears six-speed manual.

The original 1967 Z/28 was fitted with a 4.9-liter (302-cubic-inch) small-block V8 producing 290 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. Despite having a significantly larger displacement, the LS7 engine in the 2014 Camaro Z/28 weighs approximately 20 percent less, while also delivering nearly 73 percent more horsepower than the 1967 302 engine, according to GM data, but then again, that's something to be expected after almost five decades of development...

LS7 = holy grail of SBC n/a platform
LS3 = best lightweight workhorse SBC

The nice part is LS7 prices will come down.

Why don't they just color it military green and put a turret on it, the car is the size of a tank, it might as well become one. This from a longtime GM guy, they seem to have abandoned some of us. I loved my GTO(and the best GM interior ever), was there a reason in building a Camaro into a transformer car, and making it so big?!?!

Because people are getting bigger in America. If people were getting smaller than the cars would also.

The specs don't lie, but the shapes are completely different. The '04-'06 Goats are deceptive in how large they truly are, from a distance the GTOs don't look so large compared to a Camaro, especially the ass. Still adore my '05 Goat, wife wants a late model Camaro SS found a good spouse.

Sounds like every other V8. 360p doesn't help either.

3 inches in width is huge when talking about cars, and even length can be deceptive, lets not even get into the body panels hanging out all over. Its a big car, with a ton of blind spots, and looks like a transformer or matchbox car. They need to go back to the drawing board and shrink it, lose the transformer look, and fix that hideous interior as well.

I think it looks good for what it is. It's a American muscle car, it's gotta have a big bold look. There are small cars, medium cars, and large cars to choose from. Why try to make it into another sports car.

I wish car companies would get rid of the retro look. They were cool in the day, but they're played out now.

The only thing comparitive to being retro is they both have two doors.

That's... disingenuous as hell. I think the 5th gen Camaro's styling is one of the better pulled off retro designs out there (I like it), but it is retro. And I agree with blubaru that the time has come to explore more contemporary styling, and hopefully, less weight.

GM took some design elements from the 1st gen Camaros, did you expect them to clone the your '69 for todays market? My wife had a '68, as much as enjoy the shape of the car, the damn thing stops like an 18 wheeler, the body flexes like a rubber band, and interior design left you sliding in your seat. For 1960s tech it did OK.

To call the current car a "turd" given the current crop of choices isn't realistic. The safety mandates, crush zones, and market conditions dictate, to an extent, the size and weight of the vehicle to meet a price point. At least GM went to Holden to design an adequate suspension, Brembo for brakes, and Tremec for a tranny, Chevy's never had a problem building a pushrod V8.

We would all like a 2400lb, 450hp V8, RWD, two door for $20K, unfortunately you'll have to build your own in your shed.

Very true, although my immediate concern is the truck bed cap snapping the lumber holding it up and becoming an unintended Camaro hood ornament...
