Wow, that's cool. I was thinking about getting the Sports VSD HUD which shows RPM and speed and all that.

The HUD only costs about $250 and there's no need for the sensors. I'd still consider that one since I'm having trouble figuring out where to put gauges

The link display comes with the wiring for the speed, the rpm signal hooks up to the defi controller and only cost $10 for the tach wiring kit. So for about 350 you can have the link display, v2 controller, and the tach line. You'll also be all set to upgrade that way.

I tapped my rpm and speed signals straight off the ECU connectors, just used an amp connector pin removal tool (a jewelers screw driver would work if you are good with your hands), pulled the right wires (as detailed on http://www.northursalia.com/m...ng/wrxpin.html) and soldered the defi wires onto the base of the OE wire. push the pin in until it stops and you're done. About a 45 minute job including cleanup.

Default Help! Stock gauge dilema.

I have the stock gauge pack and wanted to get new gauges, however i still need voltage and oil temp but i want a different boost gauge (one that reads in psi). I was going to sell the stock pack but realize that i still need the oem pod, unless i get that monstrous defi THING. Should I just change the boost gauge with an omori 45mm psi boost? or swap all three out? I am somewhat concerned about price but still want it to look good and be accurate. Any opinions? Also, if i want to remove the stock oem pod, do I have to remove the cupholder and undo all the screws or just pull the oem pod up with a little force? I seemed to find conflicting reports about this.
Thanks

GiJoe...great job!

I would buy Derres face plate but I want my guages more set back into the pod. It looks soooo much better that way.

What supplies do I need to tackle this job myself?

a dremel
a very steady hand
something you can fabricate and make a faceplate with. some people use aluminium from a hobby shop. then you can get some black paint or even keep it silver.

be very careful with the dremel when grinding the OEM gauge pod. i already trashed one. now i am on my second.

Yup thats pretty much it, I'll post pics of all the tools used to make alittle easier.

Also make a template on paper and tape it to your "face plate to be" plastic/metal.

hahaha, what is that little taped on "think" note for? So you think twice before you go that much over the speed limit? That's funny.

STiBoy: Those are the Blitz gauges I believe. All the Defi unit have the start up sweep as well.

GiJoe: I actually found that money when I was figuring out where to mount my gauges. $40 cdn in the ashtray. I live near Detroit so we head over to Windsor every once in a while to go visit the uh ballet.

the pod is like the autometer, comes unpainted black. I was suggested warm grey, but in reality is more darker than that shade. Primer grey seems to be more of a match. You could take the hanger from the rear holding bars and go to a hardware store and find a match
