Is it worth re studding tires????
I just bought a set of tires and they could use a new set of studs. They got lots of rubber (tread) on them. Is it worth it? How much? Where should I go? Any thoughts?

I'm not an expert, but I don't think many shops do this anymore. It would require drilling holes and installing the studs. I had a set of worn studded tires that I wanted to use for summer on my pickup. The tire shop I talked to quoted me $30/tire to remove the studs... I ended up doing it myself.
To restud tires would probably considerably more, not sure though. Good luck. |

Call Alaska Tire and Rim at 563-4398. They are located on Potter Drive. They are normally pretty good about there prices and I know they stud tires not sure if the restud though.

you can stud your own tires, ill bet if you guys pitched in 10-15 bucks you could buy a stud gun and do your own, i use to stud tires when i worked at Johsnon Tire, WORST JOB EVER, good money, 1.00 per tire, you could do close to 20 tires an hour though which is nice. The guns run on air compressors, or some are electric.

I noticed an ad in the Daily News classifieds on Friday, under the 'Tires' category- restud your used snow tires for $30/each. I can't remember the vendor's name, might have been Alaska Tire and Rim.
