I figured i should post on this thread, Because i live in PA, and I have seen the street racing that takes place in NEPA. (Not saying i participate) Some of it is downright stupid. As sure as this accident proves. theres been cars racing in and out of traffic on 81, doing 130 plus on a four lane section of the highway packed with traffic....

There also used to be an organized scene. a scene where racing took place on a deserted industrial road at hours of the day when the place was shut down. or on a Deserted stretch of highway at midnight when there is No, or little traffic. With Follow cars, and lead cars to make sure its clear... the face of the matter is, if you just need to race, take it to a track. if you Absolutely NEED to Streetrace, make Damn sure, you do the WRONG thing, the Right Way.

+1 to all of the fast and furious references, I can't stand these idiots every time one passes me it's a ricer fly by. No etiquette, no brain, and boost results in grim events like this.

However, it's nice to see that everyone in the Subaru was able to leave from the scene without any major sustaining injuries, this makes me feel very safe in my WRX.

But if you're going to get pissed at people saying "speed kills" because you've sped and never died, I'd ask you to look up the mortality rate of accidents that took place under the speed limit and compare them with the mortality rate of those that were over the speed limit. I have a feeling that you'd see a stark difference. Just because you have raced down the streets and not gotten hurt doesn't mean squat. Speed is the pivotal factor in how much energy is imparted upon what is soon to be your rotting corpse.

Quick physics lessons for idiots.
Energy is derived as ½ mv². V is Velocity. If you're going 20 mph, you won't have half as much energy as if you were going 40. It's only a quarter. At 80mph, you have 16 times more energy than if you were driving 20mph. In this instance, where they were doing 130 in a 55, that's over 5 time the energy in an accident.
I don't speed, unless you consider going 75 in a 65 zone to be speeding. What I have looked at is the statistics for speed limits and accidents in Europe and here, as well as certain specific parts of this country. Speed doesn't kill, driving style does, as well as driving education. I'm not condoning going 130 in a 55, that's just retarded, but I am tired of people chanting the "speed kills" slogan at others who drive 10 or 15mph over the speed limit on a wide open freeway.

While we are all guilty of this, that is speeding. Anything past the posted speed limit is speeding.

You're pretty knowledgable, and you didn't say you do participate, but you don't say you don't either. do we have a closet street racer here, or just another cool story?

That last line got me

Just as a heads up: given the number of accidents on the same stretch of road as of recent, PA state troopers are now patrolling the Doylestown corridor of 611 and pretty much anyone travelling over 55 mph is getting pulled over and ticketed. So any of you PA guys, keep an eye out and definitely keep the racing confined to the track.

Everyone else: I don't mind the fast and the furious references because I personally think that you should have to deal with the consequences if you're stupid enough to do stuff like this... That being said, there's a fine line between saying "they got what they had coming" and being insensitive about it. Keep this on track please.

If this was a thread about a kid that killed himself street racing/clowing around in his car on public roads, half the people in it would be anything but sensitive.
Looks like someones "Inner Child" just came out...
