Default 06' 2.5i to 06' STi engine/tranny swap

Ok so basically my buddy has a 06' 2.5i and wants to ditch the NA 2.5 for the 06' STi (ej257 i think? someone correct me if im wrong) engine. and also wants to throw in the 06' STi tranny. I have no idea what is required and this seems like the appropriate forum that this goes in. So my questions are:

1.What kind of money are we talking about for the engine+tranny and instalation?

2.Where around the Pittsburgh Area is there a tuning shop that can perfom a swap that is highly regarded and has alot of experience with subaru's?

That should be all for now, post some suggestions to alternatives and anything else that would be required to do the swap that i do not have knowledge on.

thanks!

in all honesty, you'd be better off trading the 2.5i in for the sti after it's all said and done.

Sell the 06 2.5i and buy a used 04 STI.

The drivetrain and parts you are talking about are going to be close to 10k or more, not including the labor. It doesn't make sense even if you did the labor yourself. If he can't afford to sell and trade, he can't afford the swap.

Used STI's can be bought for around 24k if you look.

18k for a 2.5ki, 10k investment in parts, = $28,000 or more (again not including labor). And after all that, the 2.5i Impreza still is not a full STI (axles, brembo brakes, suspension, STI gauge cluster, STI seats, DBW throttle, etc. etc.).

Yeah, that not the smartest direction to go with that car. Sell the 2.5i and get STi....

These kind of posts should all be sent to the "how to spend money in the most inaffective way" thread.

Or the "I just bought a new car, but still have a lot more money than I know what to do with" thread.

Basically I'm just jealous of your ability to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a car without really thinking about it or being hurt financially.

You just bought a brand new car. It was expensive. The reason it was expensive was it has lots of shiny new parts. Now you want to spend more money to take all those shiny new parts out.

It would be much less costly(dollars and hours) to buy an 06 STI, then swap the hood and trunk lid. And you'd be getting suspension/interior goodies as wells as drivetrain ones.

Seriously, this question does get asked a lot, I don't get it at all.

Used WRX's are around 15k? Why buy something brand new when you aren't going to be happy with it? WRX isn't a STI, but it's a lot more fun than a RS.
