Default 99 LGT 2.5 Auto into a 98 LGT 2.5 Manual

99 LGT 2.5 Auto into a 98 LGT 2.5 Manual

Basic question (I think)...

What problems can I prepare myself for with this swap?

I have a 98 Legacy GT manual with 154,000 miles the engine has HG
issues and I have the opportunity to buy a wrecked 99 Legacy GT auto
with only 118,000 miles (this is a limited so im going to salvage the
leather and stuff too) But most importantly I want the low mile engine.

Side note: do these run the same rear differential? Auto vs Manual?

Thanks in advance for any help.

John

The Manual transmisison will have a 4.11 Final drive and the Automatic will have a 4.44 Final drive. Are you specifically wanting the automatic transmission?

more just looking to do an engine swap, but may consider the tranny as well if it eliminates possible issues. Are any differences between the auto's rear diff and the manuals rear diff?

Id like to keep the car a manual if possible, but the rear diff is going (binding up on tight turns after highway driving) So if its not possible to use the rer diff off the auto with the manual trasmission ill consider swapping the engine, auto tranny, and rear diff, etc. Does this make sense?

Thanks

an engine only swap is world easier than an engine AND trans swap, plus when going to auto you need the shifter,
all the electronics, and different mounting hardware under the transmission etc...

tbh the motor's should 100% the same if they are dohc

just do a motor swap and fix your rear diff less work and less headaches
