Wiring Harness V8 STi mated to V6 STi?
Strange question here:
I just paid for a V8 STi driveline with ECU, trans etc. The seller advertised a "complete engine harness". Well, I just got off the phone with him. Turns out the harness is not complete. Its got the correct ECU with a few inches of wire in it before it was cut. Not all the wires are in the engine harness either. This guy isn't a Subaru specialist, so I'm not exactly sure from his description what is missing. He offered to include the engine harness from a 2000 STi, so I could mate the two together. Sounds like way too much work. First, does anyone belive that the V6 harness would work on the V8 engine/sensors etc? Second, would I be missing any critical bits, like AVCS? My first reaction is to cancel the order (but he's already been paid), but if you cut and paste guys have good news for me, maybe I'll stick it out. Steve

Seeing that you own a Wrx , you can use your stock harness and add the wires you need for the avcs . There will be a few other misc additions and deletions with the harness as well.

So what he's saying is take the v6 harness (if it's free) use your stock wrx one and sell the v6 for your troubles

Ok, different question then. How much would you pay for a complete V8 harness? I'm trying to get an idea of how much I should ask for as credit, given that he can't provide a complete harness.
Or, if you don't know how much $, then how much time (labor/effort) to make the changes to a WRX harness to project value? Thanks guys |

You might actually save time as you wouldn't have to take out your wiring harness and put in the v8 one.

Did you buy this from nagano/ j-spec auto? If so, good luck getting ANYTHING back from them once you have paid. They still owe me for a damaged engine that i bought a while back.

All i can say is good luck getting the harness or any money for it. I bought an engine/transmission from them and had it shipped to me. Once the engine arrived the timing belt cover and pulley was smashed and nagano was supposed to have it insured to cover this. I don't think they did. I have yet to see any money for the damage. They keep giving my the run around. At one point dean told me to just glue the parts back together. Kinda shady!
They at first sent me the wrong ecu, then several weeks later sent me the right one. I asked them to extend the 30 day warranty due to the missing ecu issue and they promptly denied it. Then to take it one step further, he gives me a call one day and ask for me to send the engine back as he found another buyer that is willing to pay more for it. This is after i had bought the engine and had it shipped to me. Who would ask something like that?! There is more, but i'll spare everyone the details as this is way off topic... I won't be buying anything else from them. They are opening a new shop somewhere in the DC area too so everyone lookout. Thanks for listening to me rant on. Brent |

I'm not sure we're talking about the same operation. J-Spec is in Dorval, Quebec. I am dealing with Ismael; the owner I think.
what is the area code of the number of Nagano? Is it 514? |

Stay away from Jspec,
I went to look at acouple of their engines. They were pieced together. V5 block with WRX intercooler pipe, and a V4 intercooler. Pretty much anything that wasn't directly attached to the motor was missing. The igniter and selnoid gone.... be very sure of what you are buying from them. Thanks |

J-Spec Auto Sports is NOT Nagano Japanese
Hello. My name is Ismael Desjarlais, I am the owner of J-Spec Auto Sports. I want to clarify some things. www.jspecautosports.com is not www.naganojapanese.com. There are 6 other engine importers in montreal, so it can be easy to mix them up. I know that Nagano does shady business because I have bought off them in the past and I got burned. A couple of posts ahead someone called us J-Spec Auto/Nagano, this is not the case. I have a good reputation and I work hard at providing a good service. I would not like to see my reputation go down the drain because of somebody mixing us up with someone else. You may have seen that STEVE said that we were working hard to make his deal work, and we are! I understand that there has been a complication with the wiring harness and this was definitly not intentional but I am doing my best to fix it. We are not subaru specialists but yet again, not many people are. I know the basics and I am still learning but I will definitly not screw someone over because of lack of knowledge. Now if anyone has an issue with our service, and I am sure no one does, then please bring it to my and I will gladly talk to you. I wish everybody a good day and thank you for your attention.
Regards Ismael Desjarlais - President J-Spec Auto Sports www.jspecautosports.com 1424 Hymus Blvd Dorval, QC, Canada |

When i bought my engine i talked to nagano and somebody from there said that their brother worked/owned that business and they were now selling the other engines and transmissions i was inquiering about.
I'm about 95% sure of that, but if i've made a mistake please accept my apology. Maybe they were just talking b/s, i don't know, that's just what i was told. I've had a bitter/sweet experience with nagano and i'm still up in the air of what to think about them. Brent |

Well, I thought I'd update this tread.
When I received the shipment from J-Spec, the rear differential was missing, it included a non-STi driveshaft, the cam covers were both cracked because it was poorly packed on the palet, the aluminum control arms were bent and the wiring harness was totally hacked. Totally. I contacted J-Spec about the missing diff and expressed my dissappointment with the condition of the harness and cam covers. Their response was "the diff was sent, sorry you didn't get it". To which I fired off a strongly worded reply. The R180 did show up a few days later. But none of the other items have been addressed. I asked for compensation or correct and undamaged replacements. No joy. Stay far, far away. [edit: please don't confuse these guys with J-Spec tuning who has a good reputation for selling new parts. My problems are with J-Spec Auto Sports (www.jspecautosports.com)] Last edited by fragment; 03-17-2004 at 01:08 AM. |

Don't worry about the harness. Just add the 4 wires needed for the AVCS and jump the other 8.

I recently purchased a rear clip from them, sent the money and haven't seem a thing yet.
The guy is claiming he hasn't even seen the money order yet. I call BS on this one as i sent it 4 day air, and stuff like this ususally doesn't get lost. The postal company says it should be there and he said he hasn't even got it. That was almost two weeks ago that i sent it. Maybe it did get lost. Canada has a hell of a way of loosing stuff in the mail. But my problem is the guy has poor comunication and that's what makes me think something is a little off. Who knows, maybe the guy has a vendetta against me or something, but when you pay for something you should get it without worry. I know he "Patrols" this board so hopefully he see's this post and gets going. Brent Seriously pissed off w/o parts. Last edited by serious; 03-17-2004 at 04:14 PM. |
