Enjoy it as it is stock. Resist the urge to mod heavily! Also be careful how you wash the car as to minimize swirls.

The secret to making it last forever is always launching it at least once within 30 seconds of starting it, and doing handbrake turns as often as possible.

Do you really think the extended warranty is worth while? I didn't get it last time but only held the car for 60k miles, Unlikely I will hold this one any longer and I don't see it paying off.

If your down payment is not with Gary at Manchester Subaru then cancel your purchase and call him. :-)

Wash it regularly, especially thoroughly the underside of it. These cars rust much quicker than people think if you dont clean off salt well enough.

The Subaru extended warranty is a good deal, IMO, but don't pay retail. Also, get the SPT exhaust, but don't pay more than 1000.00 installed, and demand a 488.00 credit for your brand new stock exhaust. Have the dealer or mechanic replace the mounts with N mounts. Don't get the service package or Simonizing, etc.

Then, get some snows mounted on inexpensive (120.00 each) wheels, such as MSW, which are made by OZ, and some really good snow tires, like Verdensumtin, from Direct Tire. Ask for Gino in Watertown.

Then, take a ride to No. Kingston, RI and have M@ tune your car. Replace your stock sway bars with WL 24mm front and rear sway bars, replace your end links with WL or another good brand, install the AVO rear sway bar braces, install the RCE yellow/Bilstein spring/strut/shock package, install the WL roll center and adjustable rear camber kits, install a good A/O separator or a cheap $20.00 Caldwell catch can, have Scott in Peabody perform an alignment, install a GrimmSpeed master cylinder brace, perform the hack on your nav system, if you get one, if the system is anything like the 2011, install the WL subframe chassis bushing and rear differential kit, install (by recommendation from Numero Uno) the 35.00 ebay drive shaft bushing, and replace the feline Subaru horn with (4), at a minimum, Hellas. You'll rarely beep your horn again, except when absolutely necesary. The STi's HID low beams suck, so get a light bar and some driving lights from Rally Innovations. Save 165.00 and pass on the Rally Armor mud flaps.

You don't need chassis bracing, front or rear strut bars, 3 point solenoid boost control, cold air intake, etc., etc. Subarus are OK side-to-side. The drive-train needs to be tightened up front-to-back. You will notice a substantial increase in responsiveness.

Get a good radar detector and laser shifters. Wave @ every Subie that passes. Drive defensively. Cry when you get pulled over. GLHF. Be safe.

If you arent shopping @ Macnchester Subaru, bring the printed price sheet. If the dealer says "We cant possibly match those prices" get up and start leaving. When they ask where you are join, just say "Manchester". Dan, the manager @ Cityside, will price-match sometimes. YMMV, but bring a pizza and beer or munchkins with you.

No kidding on the paint. Mine looks great but it's borderline a garage queen with me out of work.

Best advice, stay off the limiter. Period. All that engine needs is another excuse to run lean.

IMO...you should:

1) Have Clear Bra installed at the dealership, and install Rally Amor mud flaps as soon as possible if you care about your paint. As said earlier, get the SPT CBE and ask to keep your stock CBE. I'd also get the short throw shifter, SPT boost gauge, auto-dimming rear view mirror/w compass, and trunk subwoofer options as well.

2) If you don't track your car (and don't plan to in the future), swap out the stock Summer tires and install a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S tires. Then sell the stock tires to recoup some of the money.

3) Break the engine in per owners manual...keep below 4000 rpms for 3000 miles. When you change your oil for the first time at 3000 miles, go with a good 5w40 synthetic oil (Shell Rotella T6) or Mobil 1 0w40, a Subaru oil filter, and for the heck of it, install a magnectic oil drain bolt (Dimple).

4) Get a tune as soon as the engine is broken in...the stock tune is crap. A good starting point is a Cobb AP.

5) Get thicker adjustable sway bars & rear sway supports (stay away from Whiteline...their $hit rusts fast), Kartboy end links, front shifter bushing, and rear diff bushings, TiC crossmember bushings, Torque Solutions pitch mount & exhaust hangers, Group 'N' transmission mount & rear shifter bushing, and Cusco lower A arm & steering rack braces.

Stay away from aftermarket CAIs (good for Stage 2 and protunes only), blow off valves, front upper strut tower braces, dark tint (20% or darker), and extended warranties.

extended warranties... seem pretty pointless tbh i feel like they want you to pay for it, then they look for any reason not to fix anything in the suby world, even with a normal warranty

ex: when my rear end started to click while driving they wouldn't replace it under warranty, car had 20k on it at the time, yea i did take it to the strip a few times but hell... thats what these cars where made for, to have fun with. and i didn't even tell them i took it to the track either the problem didn't happen right away either, it took time. but im guessing because i was 19 at the time they figured they wouldn't cover it and blame me for abuse
