well, i have the Le-28N's (18x8.5 +44 offset). I put 245/35/18 T1-S on and I have no problems rubbing (coilovers w/ a lot of neg. camber). They rubbed a bit with the pink springs i had previously in the rear during hard corners. I originally had 235/40 pirelli's on them, and they didn't provide enough rim protection for my taste, nor looked right. IMHO 245/35 is perfect on these rims. For my next set, I want to try a 245 or 255 R-compound tire, but I'll need to roll the rear fenders most likely with the 255's, unless I raise the rear a bit or run even more neg. camber.

235 you should be fine, above that and you'll night quite a bit of camber and a mildly rolled lip. I agree that they don't protect the rim all that much, but 245's just seemed like they would be way too tight

with 235's if you look down the side of the car, you can see the rim sticking out.....

but it's up to you if you want to protect your investment or not. I would never put 235's back these rims.

Both the sizes you mentioned will be bigger in diameter than the stock tires. Wider and bigger will increae your chances of rubbing. I believe that 225/40-18 is the closest to the stock diameter, as well as 245/35-18, but that's a pretty hard size to find.

I am running Volk LE-28Ns on my 04 STI. They are 18 X 8.5 Offset +48. Tires are Potenza SO3's. 235-40-18's. My suspension is still stock, but I have NO probs rubbing, not even on tight turns. Appears to be plenty of room, and the tire doesn't look streched on. I love mine!!!

I'll clarify what i said above. 235/40/18 and i could see the rim sticking out slightly, not enough tire IMO. 245/35/18 T1-S fits like a glove, perfect. I wish I had pics of my car for you right now, but i took my pictures down a while ago.

Let me clarify further....I'm not saying a 235 doesn't fit (it does), but dif. tire manufacturers vary with the true measurements of their tires (much like shoe manufacturers). One 235/40 may not be wide enough, and another might offer plenty of rim protection/fit well/etc...it all depends on the brand. The guy above with the SO-3's....those tend to run wide, so they fit well. The 235's I had on momentarily were P-zero M+S, which were put on by mistake when I ordered my wheels. But still, I'll take the width anyday if it fits under the fender.
