How much of a temp increase have you seen? It has to be better than w/o an airbox. Also, how long have you been running this set-up?

Other than that, I love mine too. I have the box with it and it looks nearly stock.

The intake temp was north of 145F in traffic, the temp of the box itself was higher. It'll cool down only on long straights, but not in stop and go. I didn't run the Cobb intake without the box, and I've been using this setup for a couple of years. With that being said, i like the idea of the box, but it needs some kind of insulation to block out the heat coming off the engine/turbo.

Fair enough. Just so I am clear, you DO like it right? Also, what stage are you runnimg and did the intake give you any more power?

Yes, i do like it.

Not sure what stage it would be considered with aftermarket turbo, EL headers, Spearco TMIC, TBE, etc...but before all that I ran the Cobb intake with box, Cobb TBE, Cobb AP, and their OTS map. It ran poorly (not even as good as 100% stock) and super lean. All four plugs were bone white. I wouldn't recommend to anyone to use the OTS map. The intake didn't give any power by itself, but only after the entire setup was custom tuned.

I really want to buy this intake and box, but heard so many not recommending it because of heat soak. The box definitely helps, but since it is made out of metal it just going to absorb heat quickly. If they or someone makes a plastic box that completely seals the intake, I'm all for it.

Well, Subaru's OEM box is plastic and completely seals the intake ... just sayin'.

Are you suggesting you can hack the OEM box to fit over the Cobb intake?

Metal absorbs heat, they should have made it plastic.

Dude, the metal box is so damn thin, I honestly don't think it holds in too much heat. At least not any extra heat. The oem box is too small for that. If you plan on big power, or want a cool sound, get the intake. If you don't care, the stock intake system is fine.

If you're worried about heat soak, better trade in the car lol. I love the intake. Get it, you won't be disappointed.

You can insulate the box the reflect the heat away from the intake.

I've got a 2011 STI. I've had the intake and a 93 stage1+SF tune on it for about a week.

I do feel a bump in performance, though this is Texas and the hot air doesn't allow you to feel it as much as you would like.

The noise is pretty loud from outside the car, but not within. Turning on the stereo can drown out the intake's noise inside the car. Though a friend of mine said that as I drove away from him quickly, he could hear the intake over the exhaust.

You'll get a considerable bump just from the stage 1 tune. My intake is quite loud inside and out.

Default Love IT

I just put mine in my WRX and flashed 93 plus SF. My car has a deeper acceleration and a smoother faster acceleration in all gears. Not a huge difference but I have noticed it. I have lost about 5 mpg which surprised me. I do feel the engine has a deeper sound and I can feel it taking more gas which is surprising to me. I have read and expected nothing in terms of more power. I hate my MPG now but love this thing and the hissing sound it makes. Has anyone else lost gas mileage?

Been running this setup for a while. Combined then with a protune with a cobb dp and forge bpv. Great combo, sounds badass, almost like links sword in zelda.

I just installed one w/ the airbox last week with the Cobb OTS map. It looks sweet in the engine bay.
I haven't had a chance to do any logging, other than basic observations.
The outside temps here haven't gone above 25f so I'm not concerned with heat until it starts getting warmer.

I noticed 1-3mpg increase on a 300+ mile trip. Compared to the baseline stage 1 map.

Performance.. eh.. I think the only real difference is that the cobb stage 1 + sf map increases the boost to 17.5 from 16.5 over the basic stage 1 map. that's honestly the only reason I think people see performance gains with the SF intake. It certainly does pull a little harder though.

I plan to do some actual logs soon, but just watching the boost, it hit 17.1 psi WOT in 3rd gear, and tapered properly - which is pretty much dead on due to the outside temperature. The rest of the car is stock currently.

The noise is badass, I had a big stupid smile on my face the first few days I had it.
When driving normally and taking it easy you cant even hear it over the heater fan running.
While the AC/Heat is off, you can pretty much hear it constantly but it's not very loud until you pass ~2.7k rpm while accelerating moderately.

On the highway, going ~75mph you can occasionally hear it sucking air in when the cruise control applies throttle, however you can barely hear it over wind noise. Under 70mph you cant hear it at all.

I plan on doing a pro tune with further mods in the spring.

This thread has helped me land on getting this intake! Stock 2012 right now besides my Perrin catback. Looking forward to getting this intake and the new AP v3 and finally getting rid of this oem tune

I just picked one up yesterday... Supposed to arrive Tuesday, so I'll try to post some pictures and possibly some sound clips after I get it installed, tune it to Stage 1, and give it a day to learn the new map.

First performance mod other than the Cobb stock tune (well besides the go-faster red grill pinstripe [+5hp] and the weight I took off the car by de-badging the back haha!).

I'm stoked! Next is Cobb DP and Tial BOV... Invidia Q300 CBE around next tax season.

I bought my Cobb SF intake with box yesterday and I love the sound. Does anyone know how long i can run this without an Accessport or protune and will it cause any problems? Im planning on getting tuned ASAP fyi

With a 2011, I believe you should get a tune ASAP.. I wouldn't be driving it without the AP.

For example, even changing to different panel filters tends to mess with intake sensor readings.

Cobb lists different maps for the stock intake and SF intake. Leads me to believe there is a difference.

Im thinking abut buying one of these used that is the metal maf housing and not the composite, also it doesn't have the box. Any thoughts on this?
