Default getting bent over...

my problem... in october with an exhaust and blow off my car was smoking and puking oil out of the blow off valve. The car was smoking pretty bad, the answer they gave me ... no problem found.
Fast forward to now with my new set up (less than a tank of gas on new set up) the same problem is happening, but far worse. I take the car to the dealer and express my concern.... the problem was already there and you dismissed it. Now that i tried to get more power out of the car, all it did was expose the problem fully. I am told that I need to pay them to do a compression/leak down test to find out what the problem is and they will do everthing they can to get the car fixed as I am a good service customer and the problem had already been documented before the new set up was installed.
So they call me today to tell me the same thing I already told them when i took the car in, there is a problem with the piston/rings in cylinder 2, and the car has to torn down. So at this point i ask where does this go from here .... The answer I am given, this was caused by the newly installed parts and probably wont be covered. Are you kidding me? this is the same problem as before. Then they proceed to tell me that the problem before was caused by my aftermarket blow off valve. Then me being a smartass say, well doesn't the car come with a blow off valve from the factory? .... We are gonna have to talk to our district service rep and go from there. I hang up and call SOA. They are supposed to call me back by tomorrow afternoon with a reply. I gotta start here, but it looks like SOA is gonna try to bend me over on this 1...

Ummm, no. The car comes with a bypass valve that dumps it back into the system instead of venting to atmosphere.

regardless .... because it was venting atmospherically, it was puking oil out of the bov and pooling up in the intercooler. which should not happen... a slight oil film maybe, but not oil poolin

Sure. But aftermarket parts on your car=bad SOA mojo. Goodluck. Being nice to them seems to get me farther, I've yelled at a few reps in my time.

sounds like you added something that caused failure of your engine so why is that SOA fault.

the problem already existed and was dismissed, the dealer told me they would help me, only to get 2.5 hours of labor out of me to do a compressio/leakdown test and tell me what i already knew and told them.

Basically - pretty simple. You purchased a subaru - put on any aftermarket engine, drivetrain component (especially one that was not purchased/installed by the dealer) and kiss your warranty good bye.

So - moral of the story. when modding subies - GO ALL OUT

Because you run lean on the gas, and rich between shifts.
It causes more stress than stock.
You ****ed your engine.
Now you pay.

Name brand isn't the question. You had an exhaust and a BOV, did you have the car tuned? Engine management? Anything? Or did you just toss stuff on and drive? Also, what other parts were in the "new setup"? Did you tune for those? I suspect not, and hopefully you learn from this, cause it's going to be an expensive lesson.

yes the car was tuned with an AP....All of my parts are name brand. this is not the first car i have modified. I have numerous cusco suspension parts, Invidia dp, Espilir exhaust, hks bov, Cobb AP,and Volk wheels since about 10k miles. I bought the hks because i got a good deal, and was putting together my new set up already and would need an aftermarket blow off.
The new set up consists of an ACPT cf driveshaft, aps cai, aps turbo inlet, aps dr525 fmic, pe850 injectors with pump, frank50 with 8cm hotside, colder plugs, and was tuned the same day the set up was complete. As of now, the new set up has less than a tank of gas through it.The problem came out on the dyno and the tuner told me something was wrong and stopped with a super safe tune. Took the car to the dealer to have it checked out .... told me nothing was wrong and fixed an oil leak, (filler neck was leaking). parked the car and waited for 2 weeks for tuner to come back. Pulled plugs and made sure thay were gapped correctly and cleaned maf too make sure everything was good to go.I also did a boost leak test to make sure of no leaks. Put the car back on the rollers, to find out the problem was worse now.... off came the car and back home. Did a compression/leakdown test found the problem. Just what i thought...I would not be pissed if the problem had been dismissed so many times. If the problem only occured after going stg4, I wouldn't be upset. Now that i have gone passed the point of no return is when the dealer will admit that there was a problem and is now worse. I am just tired of people giving *****ty customer service and looking for every reason to not take care of you. I really didn't think that SOA was this bad, even after hearing what people had to say. I worked on cars at an Acura dealer for well over 7 years, and fixed countless problems under warranty that should not have been warrantied. I even fixed cars that were out of warranty because Honda wanted to take care of the customer. I understand the "pay to play" saying. I have many other toys and enjoy them knowing "what might happen." I just hate having to come out of pocket for somebody else being lazy.

As far as learning my lesson because this is goin to be expensive... whatever. I make very good money and will be ok if i have to fix it... but that is not the point.

It sucks and sounds like for the most part you went about things the right way, but there's no way in hell the dealer will touch anything in your engine with a 10ft pole. Just the BOV would have seen to that, and after all the other work, you're pretty much hosed. I'm kind of surprised you went to a dealership at all, really. At this point I'd say bite the bullet, order up a new set of internals and get the car to a shop you trust to install them. The dealership is just going to cause you a ton of frustration, and more than likely won't be worth the hassle OR the $$$ they'll charge you.

I know.... I could do the repair myself, but don't have time. If they are not gonna help me out at all, I am gonna trailer the car to the engine builder that built my sandrail motor. I have already talked to him and he said he would do the job and then get it over to Cobb for a protune... about 10 minutes from his shop. But if I go that route, I am gonna order cams, clutch, piston set, and have the heads ported. I would just rather spend the money to make me more, instead of on the car.
The DSM is supposed to go over and look at the car and go from there. The only chance I got of getting some help, is the fact that I am a good service customer, this was a documented problem, and the dealer actually installs performance parts.... including some of mine.

Please dont blame SOA because a dealers service department couldnt find the problem. SOA doesn't own them.

I don't blame them, the dealer is the one that messed up. But that is the problem... I told them what the problem was and they dismissed it. I just want SOA to help me with a resolution with the dealer. SOA was pretty cool on the phone and actually asked what the car put down on the dyno. He was pretty simpathetic when I told him it only put down 250hp because it wasn't safe to continue with the tune

If this isnt your first modded car, then you should know how the deal works, when you modify a car regardless of make. You have modded your car and it's their fault they refuse to cover it? That is like saying it their fault you put deisel fuel in your car.Did Subaru's force you to install engine and engine management mods? I don't think so.You chose to modify your car and whether or not there is or isnt a known problem found. Not only that, you continued to make changes to the car, so accept the consequences.

Just because your Acura dealership fixed cars under warranty, doesnt mean that Subaru should fix an STI that has a ton of engine mods and tuning done to it. I bet all those Acura's and Honda Pilots all had serious engine work causing their problems too right? There is a difference in the circumstances. I am not saying the mods did or didn't cause the failure, but thats pretty balsy to go in there with those mods and try to get an engine issue covered. Maybe you shouldnt have came out of pocket at all and you could have your car covered.

actually, I fixed lots of highly modded cars under warranty.... hell I even fixed a handful of them that were over revved due to mis shift .... 10k+ rpms. They were goodwill 1 time only fixes, but they were still fixed. What it really comes down to is how do you take care of a customer.... or is the tech trying to get out of doing a repair due to the poor paying warranty times by blaming something else. I guess 1 persons view of customer service is not anothers....

That is nice they did that but because "that dealership" did it, doesnt entitled you to get the same treatment.

My view on customer service has zero to do with this. I am stating the obvious and you are expecting the same treatment because you did it to others and thats not how life goes.

I can never understand why people would insist going in a dealership with aftermarket parts on. Take it off if you think your problem is serious.
