So im looking at building a new computer (desktop)
As the title says im looking at building a new desktop.
Ive already sorted most of the stuff needed to build something that will be a pretty good do-everything machine. But while looking at ready built computers for ideas I came across a physics card. I know they are for games as such (which i do play a fair bit off) but do they really do anything substantial for the amount of money to spend on one?

Since nvidia's acquisition of AGEIA don't the newer cards incorporate this?

Correct, Skywatcher. The newest GeForces have the Physix card built in. Not worth the investment yet, though. Wait until more games support it and the prices will drop on the add-on cards as well. What motherboard are you looking at, Burbling?

What a waste of $.
All new CPUs have multiple cores... many of them barely being used. The need for a separate chip just for physics is nonexistent. |
