Can you mount that rack on the car by yourself without too much time or effort?

I am asking because I have the optional Subaru rack with a Thule adapter (which is actually another load bar on top of the optional bar).

If I want to mount/demount the roof rack quickly, I have to keep it together. I can just barely do this with out worrying about scratching the paint or breaking off the little doors that cover the mounting bosses in the roof. It is a lot of mass to keep under control as I pivot the far side of the rack onto the mounting bosses on the far side of the roof.

If I want to mount the rack with out tearing my shoulders out of the sockets, I need to disassemble/reassemble it. This takes 15-30min and two different wrenches. A torx for the Subaru to Thule adapter, and a hex for the bike rails to load bars. The fasteners are not in ideal locations as the adapters and bike rails are almost on top of each other. This is a PITA.

Thank you,

Rob

I just had to pay for the new bottom bracket, a 1.5" bottom race and labor. The Gary Fisher was a 2007 model that I bought in August of 07.

The bike rack takes less than 5 minutes to take off, with no tools. It's a great design that mounts to OEM x-bars, square bars, and round bars. I used to have a King Cobra, which was quite the process to remove.

Good luck!

Please refrain from the kind of douchebaggery that will get everyones camping privileges revoked. We are all super lucky that mark allows it so show a some respect and gratitude. Just sayin'.

Thanks, I ride enough that I would keep my rack on 365 days a year but the wind noise (sounds like a muffled cell phone ring), paint damage, and mileage hit aggravate me enough to want to remove it after the bike is off.

I will be ordering a yakima fork mount on the assumption that it will be lighter, lower profile, and more secure from bike theft. Can I ask why you went with the roll on style?

Bring extra wheel skewers.

Rayburn was very buggy, and everyone had mechanicals. You missed some fast riding....when we weren't waiting for chains, wheels and tires to be repaired.

Bike is currently being repaired/tuned up. Front hub was beat and had a slight wobble too, so that's getting fixed. Finally might get a new front fork since mines been blown out for decades it feels like.
Gonna be riding up at Loon for Columbus day weekend/Oktoberfest!

Super nice night for a ride in Nam yesterday, not too cold or hot. Now if only all the mosquitos would just die already. Saw a DGM GR STi in the parking lot when we left too. Any of you guys ride nam regularly? Love that place.
