Default 04 6 speed swap into 02 Wrx with Sti swap

Yeah I'm doing the full swap and I was just wondering if there were any other brake setups I could use instead of the brembos? My conversion didn't come with them and I'm kinda looking for a cheaper temporary route..... Any ideas?

Up front you can use your stock WRX brakes. The '04 STi uses the same front hubs as all of the other non '05-'07 STi's.

What did you use for a rear diff? R160, or R180?

If you used the R160 then your stock rear brakes will work.

Na don't wanna screw the center differential so I'm going r180.... I didn't think you could use the r160 due to the gear ratio differences? Know anyone who has done this before?

Just what I've been reading over the last 5 years. The R160 requires some semi custom driveshaft work, and as you said you have to pay attention to the driveline ratios. A R180/WRX brakes requires semi custom axles. Using all stock parts, I think, you have to use the STi rear brembo package.

There maybe another option that I missed.

The OP was asking if there were any cheaper, temporary options for brakes. For the front's there are many options. I don't know about the rear's.

Here is an interesting thread though:

I have the DSS conversion axles and don't like them. I'm working toward a 5x114 swap. I'm hoping to use my current LGT front brakes by using Tribeca rotors (5x114). I'm not sure what to do in the back. It depends on whether I can swap backing plates or not.

Are you looking for better wheel options? I thought you already had the upgraded bearing with your six gun hub conversion.

Custom driveshaft work? I swapped a car and use the six speed with stock front brakes, rear brakes and an r160...

Um, what drive shaft did you use to mate the 6 speed to the R160?

Stock auto driveshaft. The 6 speed is essentially the same weight/height/width/length as a 4eat.

^^ right, but you have to mod the gearing in the r160 to 3.90,

ot: i cant think of anything that is cheaper than a set of used rear brembos in your case, unless you do what everyone else is suggesting which is, find an atomatic driveshaft and making our old r160 diff 3.90 ratio instead of 3.54.

1. There are 6 speeds available in 3.54:1 and 3.9:1 flavors
2. No change to the rear differential is required if it already has a 3.9 ,,, I never said it was a 6 speed swap into a WRX

You can bolt 06-07 2 pots directly to the R180 hubs and use the gravel spec (290x18/190mm parking brake) rotors.

I can supply you with calipers and rotors if you need them.

Where do you here that using a r160 will mess up the center diff? I think their are many people that did 6 speed swap that kept the R160.

6 speeds use a 3.9 LSD front diff. No LSD R160 was offered, that I can think of off the top of my head. So, you have to do a ring/pinion swap, or use a non LSD rear diff.

I personally would just do a freaking ring and pinion swap.

Yea I know you need to change the rear diff to 3.9 But changing the ring and pinion everything should be ok because their all the same ratio correct? If you didn't have a 3.9 (ex. 3.7 or 4.44) then you would ruin the center and maybe front diff correct?

If you didn't use the correct ratio in the rear diff as your 6mt required you would damage the center diff.

There are an incredible number of r160 LSD available in ratios from 3.54:1, 3.8:1, 3.9:1, 4.11:1, 4.44:1 and a few odd ratios meant for Datsuns and such. I've personally touched/used the above mentioned ratio LSDs. Some of them were viscous, some clutch based and a couple even gear based.

Edit: Take a look at this random link I found using google and scroll down to the "Subaru R-160 Differential Part #s" section http://www.prosubaru.com/tech/axleid.htm
