Ported elbows w/factory cross pipe, HELP!
So my car is schedualed to get tuned tomorrow but it's making a sound that I can only describe as a slipping belt. Ported and coated exhaust elbows were installed and I had a 160 thermostat installed at the same time so we thought maybe some coolant got on a belt. Well I cleaned the belts with everything from a mild soap to stronger detergents and the sound is still there days later. Next step we tightend the belts- sound still there. Next we put new belts on- still there.
Ok perhaps it's a pre-turbo sound? Certainly dosnt sound like it but we're running out of ideas. Put the car on the lift and went over every bolt from the heads to the uppipe and everything is secure- sound still there! Now for one reason or the other I did not pick up the larger midpipe as I was getting a little low on money. I was wondering if anyone here have ported exhaust elbows matched to the factory cross pipe? Or does anyone else have any input as to what this sound could be? Could the difference in diamter from the elbows to the factory midpipe make this type of sound due to turbulance? I swear it sounds like a slipping belt!! And yes, the car is noticably down on power...not a lot but it is. Please help! Steve
