swapped older 5 speed into 07 WRX - cruise not functioning
Here's the story short and sweet:
Swapped JDM transmission into my 07 WRX last week, code TY754VBBAA. All of the plugs matched up, speedo is correct, drives well, all seemed good. The problem I'm having is that the cruise control is not functioning. Pressing the button on the stalk gets the cruise light to come on at the dash, but the controls do nothing to set speed and presumably coast/acc/resume/ aren't functioning either. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the speed sensor from the older drive by cable car doesn't send the correct signal for dbw? If this is the case, can I transplant the sensor from my 07 trans onto this one to make it work? If not, what else could the problem be??

The 754VBBAA has a 4.444 final drive. I'll assume you swapped to a 4.444 rear diff as well, right?
Does the speedo work? Did you use the speed sensor from your old trans, or the one that came with the JDM trans? Phil Andrewtech Automotive |

Did you put the ground wire from the firewall to the trans case back on? You get strange issues when you leave that off.

I would double check the neutral position switch as well.
Hook up a multimeter and verify a closed circuit when the car is in gear. Also...make sure the signal is the same. Ie. Normally open or normally closed. For some reason they like to change things to be the reverse of what we'd expect here, especially with the jdm parts. You may need to buy a USDM 5 speed neutral switch if that is the case. |

You gotta cover your bases when e-diagnosing. You'd be surprised how many people don't check final drive compatibility before swapping transmissions. Enough that I felt obligated to ask!
You'd be able to drive quite a ways with a mismatched final drive. But you'd notice right away. And right after you noticed, it would be too late to save the center diff. You could hook a select monitor up and verify the proper operation of the neutral and reverse switches. Your OEM switches would thread in as well. Who did the work? Would it be possible to bring the car back to them and try to pick their brains on something that might have been glanced over on the install? Phil Andrewtech Automotive |

Where would the neutral switch be located on a 2006 USDM 5 spd box? My transmission is reporting an 'in gear' condition when it is in fact in neutral. If I press the gear lever slightly forward in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear (just as/before the synchro starts to engage), I can measure a neutral output from the transmission. Thanks! |

So... Should the USDM neutral switch be a direct replacement? |
