Default How many people are in your car when your driving?

I guess the title sounded weird....

Basically my question is how many people do you usually ever have in your car? Like I RARELY (maybe 2 or 3 times a year) have more than 1 other person in the car that I am driving... and probably 90%+ of the time I am in the car by myself.

This question I guess stems from how most minivans and a lot of SUVs have that magical 3rd row seat in back - letting them carry like 7 people in gas-guzzling comfort. I put ALOT of miles on my car, and I honestly rarely see more than like 2 people in the cars/trucks I pass on the HW and on regular roads.

I have always thought that that 3rd row seat feature was totaly a marketting scam, but curious what you guys think. Nothing like carrying an extra couple of hundred pounds of 3rd row seat in the car ALL the time to really nail your gas mileage.

Kinda the same deal with how most cars (and trucks) keep on getting bigger and bigger. I like small cars - so I know I am biased - but why does just about every mom "need" a minivan (or worse yet, a Ford Expedition)? Growing up, my parnets had a small Nissan Stanza, and there was more than enough room in the back seat of that thing - are all kids today THAT fat, that they need an entire 'room' to be transported in? I jsut don't get it.

Usually it's just me in my car.

But back when I was a kid we had one of those ghetto Dodge minivans (you know the ones - with the panneling on the sides ) and anyway, it was great cuz I'd have the back row and my sister would have the middle row. Our parents had the front and that way we each had our own space and didn't annoy each other on long drives.

That's about the only explanation I can think of for those extra seats. Well, that and it's good for those families that squirted out like 5 or more kids.

I'm usually the only one in my car, so yea, I feel a bit guilty about the gas mileage and all.

My mom's got a minivan, and the backseat sure as hell doesn't weigh a few hundred pounds...or I'm a lot stronger then I think i am. I don't agree with people getting SUV's, but with minvans I can understand needing all that extra space. You can fairly easily get 8 people (7 kids, one adult) in those vehicles, so having that extra row in the back is useful.

Just me and the occasional hitchhiker I pick up and later kill when I get bored with him.

I usually drive by myself, but sometimes have a passenger. One time i drove 40 feet with two passengers, but it was too crowded.
