^ im like juan...i contemplate selling my car pretty much every day. I've had my wrx up for sale 5-10 times and my STi about 5 times. Mostly just got a bunch of jokers that wanted joy rides and people offering me $20k for my STi when it was blue booking for $26k and had another $25k in mods.

I've contemplated teh h6 too....especially for my WRX but I dont really want to start down the path of another $50k subaru project. If i was going to do an H6, I would probably just call AFP and copy their setup.

Who's H6 build is that? Carmi's right, if the Subie world can get more H6 support it would be a great base for power. Like the H6 closed deck issue as an example, someone just needs to buck up and pay for the cnc programming and do a small run on them, then market it. It's not a big mystery as to how but just taking the initiative doing it

Agreed Ron, Nobody's going to appreciate what you have like you do and what it takes to replicate, cost and time wise!

Why do we have to closed deck the H6 block? are the porsche blocks closed deck? the 997 and 996 do faily well on the stock block.

That is the setup that ESX is running on that BRZ drag car.

I'm not sure on the Porsche's.

I'm not saying that you do or don't, I was just using that as an example. If you want to close the deck on a EJ25 you now have at least 3 options, and one on the EZ but none on the EG H6.

I understand but I don't think there is really a need to do that until probably 800whp+ if the H6 cylinder sleeves are as strong as ours. Two more pistons helps a lot..

I just think that the h6 (eg33 in this case, for me) will hold really high ej numbers (700-850whp) a lot more reliably and have a better powerband with 2 smaller turbos.

I would guess andy will be running 2x .63 or .86 35r's on his new setup, possibly bigger hotsides, as he has an auto.

Once he and others (r35 vr38-44 guys, too) start running single turbo's, **** will get crazy...!

Someone sponsor me!

The benefit of the GTR is that you could run stage 2 for the life of the car and be pretty reliable. Should be rock solid really. 500ft/lbs 500whp on 91 octane for the life of the car is pretty damn impressive. Plus, you could throw the cats back in and go pass emissions. These missions laws seriously took the wind out of my sales. Stupid hippies....

An H6 build in theory would be awesome. But it's still going to be a bunch of random parts thrown together (especially now), lots of custom fab work, lots of double checking and tweaking things to make it work. Then you have a super custom setup that only a few people in the country know anything about. One thing goes wrong out in the middle of no where and your screwed if it's out of your league mechanically.

I'm done with any kind of "big" power builds (and mine wasn't even big! just ended up being super expensive). A GTR does everything pretty damn good. More power? Wait till a ZR1 gets cheaper on the used market. Or a SL63 AMG (preferably with a Renntech flash). I will gladly pay for maintenance over custom builds.

Ironically, the parts of my evo I like the most: sound system, nav, and heated leather seats. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I like luxury.

You can do the same thing with 335i. The N54 is a crazy strong engine and the manual transmission is also very strong.

The GTR is so fast is because is 6 cylinder and can make more power reliably, the transmission shifts crazy fast and it has great aerodynamics. Anyone can get good 1/4th of mile times with a GTR; there is no miss shifts

Does anyone have a quote on a reasonable h6 solution? AFP is not on that build sheet.

ALSO! Get some numbers up if your car is for sale

Quality standalone. Link or Vipec will do as it already has the trigger patterns decoded but many others will work as well.

that seems cheap/very affordable to me! Especially when you compare it to a GTR build.
AFP has gone 8s at 170 on that block right?

if you want to replicate teh AFP car you will be spending well over $50k.

the tranny alone is $30k

but even if the longblock is "only" $10k....you're probably looking at another $10k for teh twin turbo setup and all the custom piping. basically everything on the car would be custom...intakes, ups, downs, tbe, header, fmic, wiring harness....basically price out a normal rotated kit for a subaru, then multiply it by 2, then add another 25-50% onto it for it being a one off.

Yeah, but do you really need a Modena sequential transmission?

The P&L drag car has a PPG dog box which cost way less than a modena transmission and it seems to be working well. You can also get a Albins 6-speed dog box or syncromesh for 15K or 7k respectively.

Long block 10k, tranny 15k and a the turbo setup for 10k. 35k to build a 1000hp subaru is not that bad.

Considering a Alpha 9 package cost 58k. Also the value of the car should be accounted for.

Quote:
Built motor, built transmission with round trip shipping included based on a 100% stock GT-R is $58K. This would produce a consistent 820-840whp on pump gas and 900whp on race gas.

Stock motor stock trans installed is right about 30K

I don't know how reliable a built H6 will be but I just know that porsche engines are bomb proof.

Yep, I was one of them. Hence why I switched. I actually put more than that into it, I could have paid for a used GTR.

The Alpha 12 is reliable though. At least, as reliable as one could expect. Switzer makes a hell of a package too, but that seems to run higher ( more like 80k).

Not sure you can compare a Porsche to a Subaru engine. Porsche has something that make them significantly more reliable. Whether its engineering, just materials, or what, it's a better engine. I still think a gt3rs engine in a cayman would be the perfect car.

The other question I have is how much more power would you need in a Subaru to compete with a GTR? An extra 100whp to combat the tranny and electronics? 200whp?

Either way, I'm not trying to sound harsh. I'm all for pushing things forward. If someone could put in the needed r&d into the h6 to make it bullett proof and relatively inexpensive it would be amazing. A whole new world for Subarus. I just don't think it's going to be cheap in any way shape or form. Best if luck on what you decide! Certainly keep us informed.
