Whats the plate for on the trunk? Couldn't you just open the trunk to get to the fuel cell?

Why not just cut the inner skeleton out of the trunk lid and attach it to the car with hood pins? If you get it light enough it should be just as easy to remove the whole trunk as it would be to remove that access panel, and that would make it a lot easier to reach the fuel filler.

Car runs! New motor is coming along well. First startup with the AEM EMS was pretty easy. Going to be getting it tuned by Jorge sometime this week.

Got the race car tuned yesterday at P&L with the new 3582. A bit laggy, but considering the car has stock headers and sock heads (other than springs and retainers).
It was pretty hot while on the dyno yesterday as there was not enough airflow. We let the car cool down for 5 minutes then ran it again and it made 20 more hp. What you see on the graph is the hot hp. The pump gas map is on 19 psi, the race gas on 26. When we go back in a month or so for a retune, after we add some more parts, we are going to do a map at 30 psi and see what happens. So for all those with hybrids out there that don't think they can make any power, here you go. I always used to think my 08 STI was quick at 400 whp. It's slow compared to this. It's definitely a bit laggy, but won't really matter for road racing. Tony Last edited by Turn in Concepts; 04-02-2010 at 10:39 AM. |

Just out of curiosity, why didnt you guys choose to run the P&L front mount that is designed for a flipped manifold application. Shorter more direct piping would surely reduce the increased lag that your experiencing from running the larger turbo. Just a thought.
Good luck this year guys!!!! |

Yes, also curious why you didn't go with a reversed intake manifold.

For example, I have some things I want to do on the intake manifold. I also want to shot peen with large shot at low speed the inside the IC tubes as those are a textbook example of laminar flow and boundary layer losses. I also need to do the heads. Badly. I have a VERY good idea of what I want done on the intake side (still working out exhaust side). Problem is finding a head shop that will look at it, and go "Ok, we'll try it your way, but look out for this..." Instead I mostly get "No. We do it this way. We've always done it this way, and we're not interested in even looking at your way." |

First test day is finished and the car ran very well!
On the race gas map it is absolutely insane! Unfortunately, it was wet in the morning when we were testing with the race gas so we didn't get any good lap times. The speeds at the end of the straight though were dramatically higher than on our old setup with 380 whp. Where we were hitting 132 mph before we were now hitting in the 150-155 range. The powerband on the pump and race gas maps were great even though peak torque comes at almost 5000 rpm. Even rolling on half throttle yeilded more acceleration than at full throttle on the old setup. Realistic estimation on lap time improvement would be 4-5 secs which would put us 3 sec faster than the lap racord for our class car in NASA. The changes to the suspension were great as well. We replaced the stock lateral links with poly bushings with MSI spherical bearing lat links. We also dialed in 1.2* more neg camber in the rear over last year to -3.4*. These two mods really calmed the rear end of the car down. It is no longer twitchy on transition. It just sticks and allows us to put the power down coming out of corners. Oh, and for the nae sayers, the stock bov has no problems holding 26 psi and making 530 whp. I will have some pics up later tonight or tomorrow. Tony |

-3.4 in the rear? Wow, how much front camber are you using?
