Fuel pump going bad?
Just starting from yesterday, every time I started my car I hear this high pitch whining noise coming from the ear of the car. It is pretty quiet inside but if you go to where the gas door is it is pretty loud there and its coming from the bottom of the car. I assume it is my fuel pump start to go out but just wanted to make sure.
The noise will last about 10 second or so and it will stop completely. It will only happen again the next time I started my car, and again, and again... I have a Walbro 255 installed about 3 years ago. Car is currently running at custom tuned stage 1 map If it’s the pump, will it be safe to just put the stock back in with the current tune? Injectors are stock.

Yea that defiantly is the fuel pump man. I would say it would be safe to run the stock pump for those power levels

walbros make noise. that's what they do.
mine's been making noise for 5 years and i GUARANTEE i run it a lot harder than you do yours. you hear it for the first few seconds after starting because that's when the ECU tells the pump driver to go 100% duty cycle, in order to fully prime the system. then it drops it down to 33% for the majority of driving. |

I noticed louder noise when starting up the day I have it installed... but after 3 years it is really whinning now... It almost sounds like a jet engine the first 10 second or so... I just worry that this is a sign of failing fuel pump...

Resurrecting this thread.
I have rallied my car for over a year no issue 9 months ago we dropped the EJ207 into my 02 bug eye My walbro fuel pump started whining so loud after I did my first autoX event 6 months ago. When I pull into a gas station hot off the highway it sound like its going to explode. Its loud on start up which it known to be normal. I have an extra one just in case, but I don't want to be changing it on the side of the road. How long has your walbro pump whined for before dying? Thanks |

I had one.... I am just not overly excited to get wasted on gas fumes.
I shall run the tank dry first seeing as I am changing the pump anyway. It's sooooo loud It's louder than the boxer rumble. :/ |

For piece of mind change your fuel filter to see if it changes, if so there is your restriction. |

I am going to get her Dyno'd next month so we are doing filter and pump.
Compression/leak down and pretty Much a service overhaul. Issue should be fixed by the end of service. |
