Unhappy Sigh...Bubble on sidewall

C/N at the end

I was installing kartboy f/r shifter bushings and noticed that on the inside sidewall there was a bubble(front passenger). I was pissed and was bummed out since America's tires told me I had about 60-70***37; thread left on the others. (tires were kuhmo k104 ventus)

I was quoted for 588otd for 4 kuhmo esta asx (255/40/17) mounted. I didn't expect to spend money on tires anytime soon so I can't really afford much. I left america's tires and called some buddies. Found a guy that can mount tires for free, but no discount on tires.

Basically what I'm asking for is: What tires does everyone recommend that are in 245-255 around 100 bucks?

Looking for something w/ good treadwear, decent traction(anything better then my stock re92), and performs well in rain. Road noise and comfort really matter.

I usually drive 65-75 mph and am a bit spritited on some turns. I don't race in canyons, autox, drag, or any competitive driving, but I have enjoyed the grip that my kuhmo k104's have offered me.

Any help is appreciated. Right now I'm planning to get the ASXs from america's tires w/ price match from tire rack($97 vs 129mounted) and having my friend mount them for free.

C/N: Tires needs replacing because of bubble. Budget of about $100 a tire unmounted because I have a friend who can mount for free. Looking for decent grip, decent rain performance, and decent threadwear. Comfort/road noise doesn't matter. Planning to get ASXs...is there something better for around the same price?

Yes thats me under the car installing the bushings(pictures were taken by my GF

if you bought insurance for the tires, they should cover it. all you have to pay is $10 (i think) installed again.

i know this is what we do at just tires.

Do you replace ALL the tires? or just the one with the bubble? If its just one then I would still need to buy new tires.

Don't you need to replace all four, or get the exact same with the same mileage?

I had to replace one tire and was lucky enough to find a used one on Ebay with similar treadwear... might be worth checking around. I've also heard that some places can shave tires to proper depth, but am not sure where to get it done.

I've heard some perfomance shops may do that tire shaving thing, but the cost of the single tire about $111 and having someone shave it down...I'd have to trust they know what they are doing and plus i'm not even sure how much it costs. I'd rather get 4 new tires and play it safe. If I get another bubble then I'll probably consider buying just one .

Right now I'm debating between the hankook K104(what I have right now), kuhmo SPT, kuhmo ASX, or hankook h405. I've decided I'll go with 245 since 255 is a bit extreme for the streets.

I like K104 because I like how they handle and if I have another problem I can hopefully just slap on one of my tires w/ 70% thread and not have to spend extra money.

The spt sound pretty good for the performance and price.

The ASXs are tempting since they are well priced and have great threadwear, but the performance isn't as high.

The H405s are so cheap priced. If they were cheaper I wouldn't care if they burst into flames at 20k miles(Actually I would mind, but they are $88 bucks!)

Anyone have any input on these specific tires on their cars. I'm going to order from discountiredirect.com 245/40/17.

...do the SPT's....and make sure ya keep them aired up....that bubble is most likely due to that tire being too soft when ya hit something
