Default 99 Legacy GT Wagon

I'm going to look at one tomorrow with the intention of buying it. It has 81k miles on it, and apparently is a limited package or something, as it has leather seats, sunroof, etc. It also has an auto tranny; i know, i know....but i already have one subaru the wife can't drive and can't add another to the stable! The seller, a used car dealer, has (surprisingly) disclosed that the car was bought for a song at the auction because it had a misfire. They apparently ended up having the timing belt changed along with the crank pulley and new plugs, and coil packs, and they claim it runs perfectly now. I have read the horror story thread about the head gaskets, so if i decide to get it i will make sure they include some sort of warranty against that particular problem in the deal, and i know the signs and symptoms of that particular problem. What other things in this model should i look out for before buying? Any more advice? What should I offer for it? Edmunds TMV suggests a little over 6k, but i wonder if the repair history might alter that. Thanks for the help!

matches tires
brake pads
wheel hop in low speed 'donuts'.
sunroof functionality
headgaskets(as mentioned)

repair history shouldn't effect price since it was mechanical and is now 'fixed'.

good luck!

well it looked nice and ran nice, but i saw oil in the coolant reservoir, something was headed south in the rear suspension, and it looked like the entire exhaust needed to be replaced. also, i thought it was black at first, but in certain light it appeared to be a really dark metallic cranberry or something. anybody know what that color is called?

In 1999, Subaru Legacy GT LTDs were only available in Arctic White, Quicksilver Metallic, Ruby Red or Black. Unless your candidate car was repainted, it will only be white, silver, bright red (not the darker metallic ruby red), or black.

Subaru Legacy GTs have also been painted "Spruce" (metallic green), dark blue, and "Sandstone" (sort of a metallic tan/brown).

Subaru uses different color flake in their black paints... I'm pretty sure that particular year has a red metallic flake in it, which you can really see in the sunlight.

sounds about right; looked black unless the sun was hitting it just right, when it looked to have a dark red tint to it. i personally thought it looked very nice.
