Front end cover
Has anyone had any success with the so called "front hood bras" for a Baja? My black and silver suffered some rock chipping on a cross country trip recently and I want to do something to prevent it from getting worse! Also, some ditzy blonde in a red Camaro backed into me at an intersection in Oregon while I was stopped and made a bit of a mess. She had gone too far into the intersection and backed up to avoid a transit bus and hit me while I was stopped behind her and couldn't get out of the way! Not sure if I want to go the insurance route and figured the bra idea might hide the scratches.....

I have the plastic hood bug deflector/protector on my Baja, and so far so good!
As far as a hood bra goes, look into them further, they have their good points, and their bad points. They can be a high maintenance item on your car, as you have to keep the underside as clean as possible to avoid marring the paint. Please get other opinion's on this, as I have never owned one. Sorry to hear about your accident, good luck in the future. Keep it under 90, folks! |

Any other thoughts?
Thanks for the comment. I was wondering if anyone else had heard or had experience with these, particularly your comment about them marring the paint underneath. If that is a persistent problem, it may not be worth the effort.

Don't do it.
I had one for my old car. It looked cool, but it destroyed the paint. I even followed the warnings that came with it saying you have to take it off if it gets wet, but the paint still got cloudy. I kept it as clean too, but it still wore through the paint at rubbing points and it was the OEM one and fit nice and tight. It did more damage than good.
I will never use one again. I've got the plastic hood protector on my Baja. It's made well. There are special stickers and rubber bumpers that come with it to keep it from rubbing and hurting the paint. |

I have one and like it. However, I only took it off once since I got it (2 years now) and at that time didn't notice any problems. That was probably mid to late last year. When I do take it off, I have to clean under it quite a bit, so I'm not willing to check it's status for you until I have some weekend time. I'll try and check this weekend though.

Clear
I saw the 'clear' type at the local auto show last year...seemed pretty cool. It sticks on like heavy 4 mil saran and peels off pretty easily, although after a few years don't know if it comes off that easily. Also, plastic seems like it filters UV so don't know long term effect where exposed and protected paint meet.

WHile I agree the clear bra is Great and the bug guard is cool looking(i have one) with the damage done to his Baja I would go with the black bra because a repaint would be need to fix the damage done by the backing up insident |
