PCA autocross
Thanks for the info on the time ... Unfortunately, the tires on the car are nothing to talk about. What would you recommend aside from full slicks or road race tires? I was pretty impressed on how the whole car responded but I guess it'll take some time to get used to the car. ( coming from a Honda). I was really impressed at the ALL the Subaru owners attitude and hospitality. Props to Dave Brown for fast timeslips and his knowledge!!! Thanks again!

Adam:
, silverSucker must not like you. slalomfever: You must be the guy with the lowered blue WRX... as anybody will tell you, those RE92's aren't good for anything. How new are you at autoxing? If this was your first time, I'd suggest staying with the RE92's until you get a few more events under your belt. What kind of suspension do you have on there, anyway? |

Yeah, I'll definitely be at the one on the 18th. I know what you mean, it was REALLY hard deciding whether to go fast or just have lots of fun hanging the tail out. For some reason, the course layout was really conducive to drifting.

Cool pictures! I plan to make it to the next PCA autocross but I'm gonna make sure I'm first on the line for registration seeing as I don't want to get hit with that BS $10 F*** you charge that they tacked on. Slalomfever, where in Westbury do you live? I work there on Union Ave. and I've never seen you.

PCA event
Zephyr250, I'm from the Salisbury area...close to Stewart Ave and Salisbury park drive. My family moved here from Queens.
Ridinlow, I'm not really "new" to the autocross scene. I used to run with Eastern Motor Racing Assc. @ the Poconos and what used to be Bridgehampton. Always with frontwheel drive Hondas though. I used to be involved a whole lot with drag racing. I love the profesionalism and camaraderie that the auto-x people have. Hopefully, I'll get familiar with this AWD thing and eventually be as fast as you guys. Thanks for the suggestion. I may actually order Kumho ECSTA tires. |

yeah adam,
i couldn't wait around for your granny arse to go thru the course...i would've froze to death by then! Nah I don't think I got there in time for your runs. I took everyone else from iClub who ran from when I arrived. Told ya guys I didn't know if I'd be able to get up in time from my nightlong binge drinking -chrisC |

George, sorry I didn't see your earlier post. Kumho 712's are great for spirited street driving, but they're not so good for autoxing. They're not particularly sticky and they have a very soft sidewall. I have a set in 215/45 17 for my street tires. If you have a set of R compounds for racing and do a lot of commuting, then the 712's are a good bet. But if you want a tire for the street and track, I'd go for the Firestone SZ50EP or Falken Azenis. Of course, this is providing that you have snow tires for the winter.
Speaking of tires, I just looked at my R compounds, and the most wear was on the rear left tire! Must've been having too much fun on Sunday. |

Thanks for the advice dude, I think for now, I get the Kumho's and when the 2002 auto-x season starts, I may get "real" auto-x tires like the R1's, Hoosiers or Advan 032r's.

The Hoosiers are by far the stickiest and lightest... which also means that they're the most expensive and won't last more than one season. The BFG R1's have been discontinued. Yokohama is on the verge of replacing the A032R. That pretty much leaves the Kumho Ecsta V700 and the V700 Victoracer. The Victoracer isn't as sticky as the Hoosiers and they're rather heavy, but they're cheap & you may be able to get 2 full seasons out of them. The Ecsta V700 is the new version and is supposed to be lighter and last longer.
You're gonna run Kumho 712's in the winter??? |
