Default Gas line freeze up?

It was about 10 degrees this morning. About half way to Bethesda the Baja started to miss and stumble on 495. It got worse as I crept along in rush hour traffic toward the city.

Found a gas station, bought a bottle of STP fuel treatment and topped off the tank. Finally made it to my destination and parked the car for a few hours. Started it, it stumbled still, but then smoothed out.

Now, the check engine light is on. Would a gas line freeze induced misfire etc, generate a code requireing a reset of the ECU?

I've had no problems with my Baja in temperatures down to -10F here in Colorado. Could it be some bad gas? Water in the tank freezing? Hmmm...

Could be something else, I'd hit the dealer and have them pull the codes on the CEL and see if something else is amiss.

Yes, I think I got some bad gas in PA.

After things cleared up I took the mechanics advice and waited to see if the check engine light would go off. It did by the next day, so everything is okay now...I think.

I see a lot of performance issues at work this time of year, many related to crappy gas. Its been colder than Zip's a$s around here also. Low fuel will cause condensation and ice crystals, which might adversely effect performance. I always suggest sticking with a reliable gas station, and keeping it over 1/4 tank all winter. For some reason I get customers that have A LOT of water in their gas tanks this time of year. High volume gas stations seem to have less problems with their gas condition.

The code that caused the CEL is now stored for a few dozen ignition cycles of trouble free performance and then it will clear itself. Do not reset the computer everytime you get a CEL because it makes for harder diagnosis if you ever have to bring it in to the shop/dealer. If the light stays on it means something is still wrong, which needs to be diagnosed and fixed, not cleared out by unhooking the battery.

CELs don't hurt your car. Flashing CELs don't hurt your car...the malfunction CAUSING the CEL is what hurts your car.

I had this problem in a Honda Accord I had before my Baja. I found using a product like dry-gas or any gas line dryer treatment like once a month in the winter in Maine kept things in check.
