Blouch doesn't list it on their website, but call Mike Blouch. They still do it.

Starts @ $600 for a rebuild and upgrade to 19T. But if you're TD04's shaft is bad, you're looking @ min. $295 upcharge for their H or HL shaft.

For a new turbo = not bad $.

Wow. That is just terrible. That's like... 35r spool with 16g power... There's gotta be a pre turbo exhaust leak or something going on there. Thanks for sharing, but it doesn't look quite right.

Oh it's very right I assure you, given the turbo and what it was set up to do. It was a two year R&D project, and was a blast for long pulls, especially highway passes

The td04 was ported on both sides for a 19t compress and HL hot side, iwg ported, and a welded divider inside the turbo separating the wheel from the iwg door with the downpipe venting this iwg atmospherically through it's own pipe separate from the downpipe itself (post turbo, not pre). So the hotside wheel had absolutely no impedance from the iwg opening and stopping all cross flowing problems that happen with normal bellmouth downpipe designs. I was able to beat 250awhp with a td04 and stock headers/up-pipe. Yes it does hit late in the rpm, but take notice the horsepower does not taper towards redline but rather continues to climb. I was able to get 16g cfm's out of such a tiny snail and that is while keeping it under 18psi. Yes, I could have cranked up the boost and switched to flexfuel, netting me easily over 300awhp. However, that was not the intent of this build. Rather, it was to produce over 250awhp on a "near stock" motor with minimal need of supporting mods/parts. The downside is that it does not hit early any longer, and in turn, shifts the graph to the right, as intended. Plus... pop the hood and I look completely bone dry stock. Also keep in mind this was on the stock internals of a usdm 2.0 motor not a jdm 2.0 or usdm 257.

Thanks, and I very much enjoyed her. I actually drove to NorCal three months after that dyno tune and she was parked indefinitely because I would never have passed smog

A previous customer of mine, whom bought a 1.8/2.0 td04 impreza L project I had, sold it and flew from Denver to the closest airport... then took a $400 taxi one way to my house in NorCal, just to buy this one of one GF8 from me

Henceforth, I've had 17 Subaru builds in just shy of the past 11 years.

Has anyone seen these?
http://www.ardideas.com/Billet-Alumi...ion_p_121.html

They are made for Volvo's, but I was told the conversion 19T wheel with a 56mm exducer diameter will fit our stock 13T CHRA so no machining is necessary. The only other thing it would need would be a 19T compressor housing, like this:
http://shopping.kinugawaturbo.com/tu...d04l13t-1.aspx

How would that run with the stock TD04L hotside? I noticed through my research that a lot of people try to upgrade the turbine to the H or the HL. What would be the downside of using the standard L? Is it just slower to spool or falls off sooner at top end? Does it make it inherently weaker/less reliable?

You are right. It will spool up faster than stock and then fall flat on it's face because of the stock hotside L wheel. It's a great mod for a DD, and autoX/rallyX.

Wow, very interesting thread, I came across this after looking up a local tuner and parts shop in the DC area. http://6starspeed.com/sutdtuperese.html

They do the 19T upgrade. I may be visiting them and getting some more info.

I have a 2004 subaru forester xt (ej255) with a td05-20g-8cm^2 (8cm^2=hotside a/r of .57). I was wondering if i could replace the 20g wheel with an 18g wheel. Would it be a direct swap with no other modification needed ? I would probably need a re-balance after correct ? Could you recommend a good 18g wheel for me to purchase ? I also have a td05-18g-7cm^2 (7cm^2=hotside a/r of .49) would swapping the hotsides be an easier solution to get the end result of td05-18g-8cm^2 (8cm^2=hotside a/r of .57) .

Thanks,

Phil

Just swapped in a billet 19t with a TD04L hotside. I've finally worked out the wastegate kinks and I think I like it. Spool is a little better than the 16g TD05 I had on before, but I'm not sure it's worth the top end loss. Good for around town driving, but on the freeway and in the moutains, it's just not as powerful of course.

Might be worth it to upgrade on the cheap side. I had a lot of trouble getting anyone to modify my CHRA housing for a reasonable price. I ended up just buying a 19t CHRA, along with the billet 19t wheel and compressor housing.

Default TD04 19T Upgrade Discussion

Just wanted to say that I have been this route. It has a cool factor to it, but you can easily make more hp with a vf39 or equivalent.

Basic mods were larger injectors
Walboro fuel pump
Sti equivalent intercooler and shrouding
Turbo back exh.

I don’t know what you’ll get by just replacing the turbo, however it will most likely be close to an STI or equivalent.

Please check out my EFI Logics dyno plots concerning this turbo and my upgrades afterwards.

Look under the name Konrad Mann on their website.

Regards
