Default 2005 STI, going fast=cruise control check engine light?

Yeah, I was at the track not too long ago doing maybe 95 mph and then all the sudden I felt a tug like feeling on the car. Almost felt like an electronic governor. Then, after that I had a check engine light and my cruise control button on my gauge cluster kept flashing. I reset my ECU and it wasn't there. I then purposely took the car up to around that speed and the same thing happened again. Any ideas guys?

Thanks!

This has only happened to me when I got fuel starvation on a road course because I let the fuel level get too low. After a long long right hand sweeper the fuel pump couldn't get any fuel so the car freaked out.

Sounds like boost creep causing fuel cut. Do you have a catless downpipe w/ no engine management? If so this is pretty common. The wastegate can't release enough boost (boost creep) and the engine cuts fuel briefly which throws a CEL.

I had the EXACT same problem on my 04 STI...
I could actually duplicate the prblem very easily, just cruise in 4th-6th gear at lowish rpms(60mph in 5th) then stomp the gas... Starts to accelerate, tehn feels like total loss of power, like hitting a wall, then it stuttered a sec, then came back to life with check engine light and cruise light flashing.. IIRC the code it threw was P0244-"Turbo WG Solenoid A Range/Performance"
Took it to the dealer, duplicated prblem for them, they replaced the solenoid under warranty, fixed the problem

What code were you throwing?

I haven't ran the code, I reset the computer afterwards, I could duplicate the problem again. BUT yes, I'm running a catless downpipe with no EM yet. Common?

Yeah your definately getting boost creep. This happened to me with my catless turbo back exhaust before I got my accessport. Get some engine management (Cobb Accessport is good) and your problem will go away plus your car will go faster.

I also had the same problem in my catless 06. I got AP and it fixed the fuel cut but not the boost creep, the boost creep is a mechanical problem and should be fixed by porting the IWG (if your catless).

good point mizzy. getting some EM will stop the fuel cut which is giving you that sudden loss of power and a CEL. I'm not 100% on this, but the accessport should eliminate mechanical boost creep by changing wastegate cycles. If you still notice some boost creep with an accessport then the best way to get rid of it is to port your turbo.

OK. Thanks! Well anwser me this question. Honestly, which is better Cobb AP or the TXS UTEC? Seems like I hear great things about both? Is the Cobb EM something you can fine tune yourself?

I recently started having a similiar problem with my 05 FXT 4EAT since the arrival of the cold weather... Although i pull the code: po244 "wastegate control solenoid valve malfunction (high input)". I've got a Catless downpipe with a cut-out and no EM yet... So far this has only happened to me on the highway with the cut-out open, so i've been going easy and keeping the cut-out closed till i start tuning my car over the next couple weeks.

AP and UTEC are some of the top EM systems out there. If you have experience with tuning and you want to tune your own car the UTEC might be a better choice. The AP mainly uses off the shelf maps that are OK or you can get a protune. Cobb recently released its street tuner software which lets you custom tune yourself. I think the price of an AP + Street tuner comes out to around the same price as the UTEC.
