Subaru Forester Hood
Hello my fellow Forester fans!
I have a problem that I hope somebody can help me with. I have a 2001 Black Diamond Pearl Forester S which I am in the process of getting ready for Turbocharging. The problem is that I am going to buy a turbo kit with a top mount intercooler, but I have no hood scoop for my car. Looking for one to install on my current hood has been quite a painful experience due to the excessive prices some companies charge (SYMS), so I want to get a cool looking Forester GT hood from overseas. So my question is have any of you American or Overseas Forester owners done this or have any ideas on how I could get my hands on one? Thanks! Dan Kimball East Windsor, NJ

Dan,
Other than the SYMS unit, the Aussies are probably your best source for a top mount IC hood scoop, as they are lucky enough to have the turbo Forester GT as one of their options. I doubt if there is any way around the high price if you can locate one, especially if it must be shipped half way around the globe. far too heavy.......
do you want the whole hood or just the scoop?.the hood is heavy and large and would require a crate to ship it in.
what about an impreza RS scoop???? |

I had thought of doing this too. My plan to save money and time was to get an RS hood scoop and have a local body shop cut the hole in the hood for it. It shouldn't be too difficult. Also, there are a few companies making carbon fiber hood scoops, too. That would look really cool on a black Forester!!!
BTW: Please take a bunch of pics and email 'em to me along with a description and a review of your turbo kit, would ya? I would love to put it up on my website for the rest of us Forester owners to drool over!!! Thanks. |

Hi Dan,
I bought an Aussie-spec Forester GT grille (also Black Diamond Pearl) from City Subaru in Brisbane: http://www.city-automotive.com.au/su...arts_frame.htm It's a direct swap for the US-spec grilles and looks better than the chrome version on the S. The Australian exchange rate is very favorable to us now; while the parts should be reasonable the shipping will be the killer. <-- I don't live very far from you so I'd love to see how your turbo conversion works out. A lot of local Subaru fans meet at Quakerbridge Mall; I've never been to one of their meets but I have led a covered bridge tour through NJ/PA (see Tri-State forum re both). Good luck, Ed |
