Thanks!
Haha.. not after the debacle I had installing them the first time and melting the left outter most overlay(heat gun=1... me=0) and having to order a new one. I'm really glad I decided to get the 3rd brake light from you as well when you made me the replacement. |

You have the contact of the person or shop that installed for you? I'd love to have them on my installer list .

I got these the other day too... Service and delivery was great, but I ended up yanking them off and here is why...
It is not hard to apply that vinyl to the taillights without ANY creases. However, the key to that is being able to pull the material is all sort of directions. That becomes a problem because of their cutout nature, you not only have no excess material to pull on for stretching, but you are also limited by how much you can stretch it by because you want to make sure that the cut out portion lines up with where you want it to be at. So the inner lights (on the hatch lid) go on very easy. They are pretty much flat and while I wish the pre-cut pieces had more excess on the outer edges they turned out ok. The outer piece was a different story. I was able to put them on perfectly without a single crease or bubble, but because, once again, they are precut with about 1/4 - 1/8 excess, I ended up with an uncovered area of the lens... So after spending about an hour total, it was all wasted. I personally think that it is much better to either get a sheet big enough to nicely stretch over the lights and only then cutout whatever it is you wish to cut out using a pre made stencil. Then, using the same stencil cut the tinted center pieces and nicely attach them to the lights. The end result will be much better, I feel. Another option is to get complete redouts without cutouts. While they will still lack the excess to do the pulling and stretching, at least you won't have to worry about the center cutouts being cockeyed. So instead of ordering another set of cutouts, I just ordered a big ass sheet of vinyl and will do it that way instead. Just my .02 russian rubbles. |

Seriously folks, ANY half way decent tint shop can install these if you cannot do them yourself.

Actually most shops don't prefer working with cutouts. Plus, you look at this 13 page thread and every second person had to order a second set. Or, you buy one set and pay someone to install it. It kind of defeats the purpose of buying cutouts. To me, cutouts should make it very easy to install at a little extra cost. If most people can't install them correctly on their first try, it is not worth it. Margin of error is very small. Also, I am no noob to vinyl. I have wrapped numerous cars in full graphics. All the CUSCO cars I have built were wrapped. Door handles, mirrors and all... And that was back in the day when vinyl was not as nice as it is now.
If I was selling cutouts, I would leave more material around the edges and precut it so that it makes the installation a 2 step process with first being able to peal off the backing paper around the reverse light. That way you would first stick on the vinyl where it does NOT need to be pulled. Let it stick well, then peal off the rest of the paper and stretch it in all directions. That way the cutout position will not get screwed and all the extra material will allow you to pull it nicely. But I think Bat cuts them by hand and you would need a machine to cut the backing paper without cutting the vinyl itself. The vinyl Bat uses is very nice. I was able to wrap it around the edge of the light with a nice tuck where the amount of extra material allowed me to. Imagine this... perfect application with no bubbles and creases and a good 1/8 fold over on the edges. That WILL last forever on the car and will look stunning. And again, the cut outs in their current state will NOT allow you do do that. .02 more Rubbles. |

My shop heaped praise onto the bat overlays because of the generous amount of overlap, so I don't think it's an issue for an experienced shop or amateur.

everyone has their own opinion and is entitled to it. When i first started doing/installing vinyl it took me a while to learn that it takes time to get everything in the correct position. I haven't had a problem with install these. since the first car i did a few years back.i usually take off the outer lights to help me stretch and mold everything. The more times you do it the better you get at it. If its your first time vinyling anything please take your time, use a heat gun, squeegee wrapped in felt if possible, and soapy/water spray and don't be afraid to take off the vinyl to re-adjust it. If anyone needs tips please feel free to ask me or bat. |
