Default 2013 Sport Limited Sat Radio?

I have a question.. Purchased 2013 SWP Sport Limited and was told while negotiating that car comes equipped with Sat Radio... Only to find out day before delivery that the sales staff did not know the car well and Sat Radio is only available with Nav. Due to the Dealer screw up they ended up putting an after market XM Receiver/accessed through the aux jack and mounted it near the console

I find that the set up is very dangerous as I am always looking down to change channels.

Has anyone installed and after market head unit that has Sat Radio and will work with the steering wheel controls? I dont want or need nav. If so does it void the warranty or anything. I filed complaint with Subaru of America but they basically told me to go scratch and gave me a free oil change. I dont want to get rid of the car but cant deal with the way it is now. Any suggestions or resolution would be appreciated.

Also they told me that they could not switch the head unit for a 2012 nor add the 2013 Nav head unit if not produced from the factory that way. Does anyone know if this is true. I dont see why they cant just swap out my head unit for a 2013 Nav/Sat capable unit. I even offerred to pay the difference. very frustrating.
Thanks

hey vwgti123,
i can answer a few of your questions.

I currently have the avh 4400bh from pioneer in my vehicle and it comes with both an xm and sirius receiver addon. In terms othe the one you currently have installed I cannot say with certainty that it would work with the pioneer unit.

The 2013 models have just been released
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...eivers.Compare

I like the AVH-X5500BHS but the AVH-X4500BT is not half bad either.
AVH-P8400BH is the top spec model and from a previous thread here on nasioc it seems pioneer has resolved the touch screen freeze up in the 2012 models which means the 2013 updated version should not have this issue.

In terms of using steering wheel controls you can install an additional addon that will allow all your steering wheel controls to work in the same manner as they are operating in at this time (PAC or some other manufacturer).

The upgraded head unit does have a few advantages
1: stock speakers sound way better
2: bluetooth sounds better when on the phone thanks to the lovely large mic
3: plays avi, plays usb audio, works with bt on droid and iphone
4 plays dvd
5 rearview camera
The negative apps are for iphone only and bt plus iphone connected to plug can be annoying at times.

With the the other car I will either install another 4400bh or AVH-X5500BHS whichever I can get the cheapest.

hope this helps.

looking at the specs for the 3500BHS that looks like a better value over the 5500. the only difference is lack of motorized display and about 120.00

Still looking to pick up an aftermarket deck since forever. Would it be better to go for an older 2012 deck or a newer 2013 deck? I'm no expert when it comes to audio components in cars. Is there enough new features and technologies to justify the added price for the newer deck(s)?

Thanks for the info.. Alot to digest. Is there any warranty issues? I dont mind paying up to have it all work seemlessly but dont want the dealer to pull any crap.. you know.

You added after market to your 2012 right? Any issues, warranty wise?

Thanks again for the detailed information. I now have a road map to a resolution.

Changing the radio is a simple process Warranty denial or refusal to work on a car due to a better head unit would be quite a stretch but that would be complete bs on the dealership's part. Have the radio professionally installed that way it comes with a warranty in case something with the radio goes wrong you are covered. I have never heard a radio causing an oil leak but the way most dealerships are I never put much past them. Make sure you have a reputable shop do the work.

update: remind me not to post with iphone app
The size of radio is double din. Yes you will have to do a bit of wiring nothing complicated and the dash kit retains the oem look quite well you won't notice a difference enough to care and that's if you notice anything at all.

I haven't been into aftermarket stereos since I got my last car 8 years ago, lol. But it always seems that they cheapened up the models year to year. In the case of these dvd decks I think the 3500 model looks like a great deal as I don't care about a motorized face or voltage on the outputs. One advantage to a newer model though is software, if they had issues they usually get that fixed in the newer ones

For now I'm happy enough with my stock setup and I have enough invested in it that I will be driving with it for a while. Maybe I'm a few years I might, time will tell

In terms of the pioneer
the 2013 models support a few more video formats based on which one you pick and also come with mixtrak which is completely worthless. the 3500 and 5500 are the same just without the motor, I liked the motorized face and you can raise the screen to a diff angle but apart from that no big deal. A 2012 deck would be cheaper but will lack some of the ui tweaks they made to model year 2013. As for the avh 8800 there were a few bad batches that had the touchscreen glitch but once you avoid them you should be fine. the 8800 which is top of the line can be had installed for about 660, I am thinking I will install either the 4400 or 5500 in the dgm based on price: a diff screen resolution, increase in video formats, and mixtrak are the differences between those two.

Prior to the release of the 2013 decks, I was going to get the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH.

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-P4400BH-Multimedia-Widescreen-Bluetooth/dp/B006Y441L0/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header?tag=citofgamonlco-20
With the current generation of decks released now, I'm assuming the AVH-X4500BT is it's successor even though it is the BT series and not the BH series?
Would you happen to mean the 4500 instead of the 4400? Thanks. Please keep me posted on what you end up buying and installing. Are you getting your prices from crutchfield? As the new decks aren't even available on Amazon yet.

pkL,
I do not consider the 4500 to be a successor to the 4400 because it does not have hd radio. I currently have the 4400 in my red impreza and consider teh 5500 to be the 4400 successor. I am trying to decide which one will go into my dgm impreza. I am actually planning on getting prices tomorrow for the 4400, 3500, and 5500. the quoted price of 660 is from my installer I get a discount since I am a regular customer, they are also a pioneer dealer so I can get the new decks fairly quickly.

The red impreza currently has:
pioneer avh-p4400bh
parking brake bypass
steering wheel control
usb cable
aux jack
iphone cable that plugs into usb
backup camera

I can take pics if you like

I'm still a bit undecided at this point between the 4400 or the 5500, the 3500 is not bad but I would like a 7" screen, even though 6.1" is not that much smaller. Does your Pioneer dealer do shipping within the US? If you wouldn't mind, I would like to know the prices too.

I think my decision making process will eventually come down to newer 3500 or older 4400. If you can take a couple of pictures that would be great.

You can probably find better prices at some of the online stores

Yup I have been looking around, the price on Amazon for the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH seems to be the cheapest (the price fluctuates a lot).

$20 off is a really insignificant amount.

update:
pioneer 4400 can be had for about 368 via amazon marketplace
5500 is 448 via amazon market place
2012 8400 is 459 via amazon market place

I had my local distributor match the amazon market place price for the 5500 and will install that plus brake override, steering wheel controls, usb cable, aux jack, and backup camera. My car is at the body shop being repaired thanks to a hit and run so I have scheduled the install for tues dec 18. Will post up the 5500 pics then.

That sucks, hope your car gets fixed up soon. Thanks for the prices, maybe I'll wait a bit and let them drop a bit more perhaps.

Thanks for the pictures, that looks really good. I think I might just get the 4400, it's essentially the same as the 2013 as far as hardware goes and the price should drop some more too.
