Kellygnsd's EFR 7670 build
Since the engine in my '07 STi decided to **** itself recently and the 7670 TS IWG housings have been shipping slowly I've decided to go forward with my STi build. The engine that's going in the car is a hybrid engine from my old WRX that I lost in a fire. Back when I ran it ran it put down 375 whp on airboy @21psi on 91 CA octane. Here's the current build list:
Engine EJ257 w/ 100mm Wisecos, 8.5:1 CR Stock STi rods ACL rod and main bearings Killer B oil pickup Cosworth oil baffle P&L modified oil pump Cosworth timing belt guide Fluidampr Okada Plasma direct coils Crawford AOS V2 Heads DPR ported S20 heads Cosworth 272 non-AVCS cams +1 mm intake and exhaust valves Supertech valvetrain 8K rpm limit Fuel, Air, & Cooling FIC 1180 cc injectors Aeromotive fuel rails and regulator w/ custom lines DW 300 fuel pump Marren Injection fuel pressure damper TGV deletes PnP intake manifold Grimmspeed PnP throttle body Koyo Radiator Mishimoto radiator shroud w/fans FSR Motorsports FMIC w/ Garrett core Turbo and Misc. stuff Full Race twin scroll EFR 7670 turbo kit ACT 6-puck sprung disk/HD pressure plate Greddy EVO2 catback exhaust Innovate LC-1 Wide-band Link G4 extreme standalone EMS logging
I'll be pulling the old engine in the next couple of days and wiring up the Link and the external sensors and hope to have everything done in about 3 weeks or so but considering I still have no turbo there is no real rush. I'll throw some pics up soon and keep this thread updated as everything comes together. If this setup is half as fun as my old ATP30R setup we will have a winner. Stay tuned for more

That's what I was afraid of and will be the reason I don't go balls out until I get an MPS long rod motor.

why not just get it right from the beginning? i.e pour all the money you did into this into that? you'd get the MP engine much faster then?
alternatively just spend the small amount of cash more on some new rods, it's an insiginificant amount compared to what else you've clearly put into this... |

This was a back up motor that was basically just a holdover from my last car. The only thing I'm worried about is the bottom end but I think it will hold ~450whp while I get a proper STi motor built.
If the stock motor hadn't failed I wouldn't be in any hurry to get it on the road but this at least gives me time to get the ECU sorted out before i drop a GOOD motor in. If everything wasn't already together I would have considered adding rods but this engine has been an assembled long block in waiting for over a year. The heads on this motor are really the only thing I care about and the only thing I really want to save. If I get good results on this trial run I may use the non-AVCS heads again in the STi since I'm not really looking forward to shelling out the dough for another set of fully built heads. |

Makes sense. Losing a rod and having the piston smack the head would suck. Sounds like you know what you are doing.

its a 100mm bore anyway.. i wouldnt push it any farther than stock sti rod power for that reason as well.
you gonna go with our 2.5 +2 engine or 2.34 +2 |

Does Dom prefer new blocks over used for his builds?? Once I get the STi engine out of the car I wanted to tear it down and get to rebuilding it.

I got the old engine out this week and transferred everything over to the new engine. Should have time to drop the new engine in this weekend but I still need to wire up the Link and test out all the I/O.

annnd subscribed. I was about to ridicule 100mm wisecos also, but then I read the thread. I'll be interested to see how you and bariga turn out. I'm in the process of getting a 7670 on the road too. Just got my heads, now paying for fuel setup then onto short block.
Can you PM me some info on the link G4 once you get it going? That is my last obstacle to figure out, which EM to go with. Good luck, and in for results also! |

Mostly for logging purposes so I know exactly what went wrong when **** does go wrong but I'm also playing with the idea of a a lower redline and/or shutdowns for low oil pressure and temp and a alternate fuel map when fuel pressure delta drops.

im pretty sure your stock rods will be fine at this power level. i ran 486 whp for over 5 years beat on it pretty good and the stock rods were fine.

Installed the DW 300 fuel pump, new fuel filter and this last night
The adapter harness fits under the plate where the stock ECU used to be The ECU mounts to the back of the glove box enclosure This week I'll get the pressure, temp, and speed sensors wired up then get to installing the FMIC. Also, since the dealer said they couldn't just sell me the WRX length coil boots seperate and I would have to buy complete coils at $120 a pop I picked up a set of Okada plasma direct coils for $375 brand new. Maybe I'll do some back to back coil testing if I ever get the right boots for my STi coils. Last edited by kellygnsd; 01-21-2012 at 06:42 PM. |

Am I the only one that worries about unbalanced flow between cylinders when people rotate the throttle body like that? Or is it inconsequential at part throttle?

I guess we'll have to see. I have an EGT bung on each side so when I get that setup I may be able to tell if flow is somewhat even between runners.

Nice!
Any details on the Link? Where'd you get it, how much $, how much splicing is required with the adapter? |
