Even then, when I had the 2012 Impreza loaner, I could tell that you would have to high-rev it to get the most out of it, which is why I've been so surprised at people claiming that these cars are "too slow". High-revving is okay! Turn your music up louder if you don't like the sound the engine makes at higher RPM.

The only reason I want more "power", at least through torque, for the XV is because it's an AWD Subaru. I've come to expect a bit more from them, honestly. If something is going to have towing capacity and have the ability to "off-road", I think it deserves a bit more oomph.
Good points, Hi rev is ok and thats what's happens in the prez so the Crosstrek will be no exception. The problem is in the prez I can't even get close to the 27/36 it claims to get unless you drive it like a snail so I do not expect the the Crosstrek to any different. So if you buy it strictly on fuel economy numbers but like to drive aggressive don't look for the posted EPA numbers. But thats common sense right? 148 hp in a 3100lbs CUV it is easy to get on it

16 week back order and won't take new orders. I don't know about you guys, that's a freaking home run for a manufacturer. That means they have to ramp up production.

Well yeah of course if you mash on it you're going to get worse mpg. All depends on what you're going for. On a straight highway run of 700 miles I averaged 30.85 mpg in my 9-2X Aero staying at 65. The next week I averaged 25.7 on my normal commute which is 50/50 city/highway. That being said you should be able to get 30 mpg out of the Impreza no problem driving "normally" (i.e. not babying it but not thrashing it). Take my wife's Skyactiv 3 she gets nowhere near the 40 but she also has a crap commute and refuses to be easy on the old gas pedal. You can have MPG or you can have speed it's up to you to choose.

See, I got the EPA numbers in the 2012 Impreza loaner I had, and I was romping on it. Of course, this was through the computer display, which claimed I was getting 29MPG when I wasn't romping on it, but about 26MPG when I was.

I think the Crosstrek will do fine in the MPG war.

LOL what's funny is the first round of customers that wanted to "go home and think about it" come back mad when the cars are all gone - of the first 5 we got in, we have 1 left and 3 appointments tomorrow on it

If this car is so underpowered why is the press raving about the Mazda CX5? 200 pounds heavier, taller and wider with only 5 more ponies and 2 more ft/lb of torque? Oh yeah, it costs a lot more too.

Just about the only thing that comes close is the Sportage and to get more power out of it you need to add about $5k and give up about 5 mpg and almost 2" of clearance.

Subaru is now estimating a 4-month wait on new orders of Crosstrek & Impreza.

It's good there's such demand, but they've got to meet it!

*edit: KC beat me to it!*

So me and the wifey went to test drive one. Not going to lie, I did not like it at all. The steering felt really loose. When i turned for a 2 lane street i was aiming for the closest lane, but by default of the steering i kinda went to the second lane. I even didn't like switching lanes. I drive a wrx wagon, so comparing the power between these two would be pretty foolish. BUT, i still didn't like the power behind it. It felt slow and draggy.

I've driven a Forester XT and regular model Forester, and i liked it a whole lot more than the XV. I dont know if its the CVT engine, or the heaviness of the car, but i just couldn't feel proud of what subaru did. And what the dealer told us is that they are putting the CVT engines in all models except the WRX and STI's from now on. Smart idea?? I'm not too sure.

Right after that we went to a Ford dealer and checked out the Escape, and I couldn't believe i was saying it yesterday or that im saying it now, but i liked it. Picked up well, loads of room in trunk and back row. Nice styling. Big screen for the nav. The only thing i didn't like was the front wheel drive. Other than that, i couldn't find something negative to say. Today we are going to check out the Hyundia Tucson and Mazda CX-5, so maybe we can give good reviews on that too.

As far as the XV goes though, its not for us.

Funny about the steering since they made it to be "tighter" and "more flat" which I agree. Interesting you felt it differently.

The rest you are comparing to cars the Crosstrek isn't meant to compete with.

It definitely didn't feel tighter or flat.

Well then what cars should we compare it to? Its a crossover type of car no? When you make comparisons within each of them they all come up to be compared to each other. The Tucson was extreeeemely expensive (at least for us), the mazda CX-5 was good, and we tried out the Mitsubishi outlander sport and it ended up being one of our favorites along with the Escape

Subaru just need to release a turbo variant and end all this "not enough horsepower argument".

If apples to apples, it would be Forester to CX-5, Tuscon, Escape.

The Crosstrek's segment is just now being fleshed out. It started with the Outback Sport. The Countryman, Juke, SX4 are the Crosstrek's direct peers. Honda will be making a Fit based competitor and Ford a Fiesta based competitor. Buick will have the Encore shortly. The luxury brands are fleshing out their offerings with the BMW X1 and the Audi Q1. Mercedes is working on something for this segment as well.

Exactly what So dealer said. Although the prices of theFWD versions of those cars are in the ballpark of the AWD Crosstrek causing a little bit of cross shopping with those cars. That and the XV is more expensive than the juke, etc... offers additional confusion.

Just got one last night...it's a great little crossover! It's no wrx in power, but turns in nice, comfy, roomy, way better sound system!!!

You know what this is gonna do, right? No haggle room.

Either wait until winter is over for your car to arrive (bad move Subaru) or take one off dealers stock that's not the color, nor options, you want (another bad move Subaru) at forced MSRP and/or markup... or "popularity adjustment'.

I bought a Ice Silver Premium on Saturday. The dealer is doing a swap with another dealership to get it so it will be a couple of days until I get it and now good old Sandy might delay it even more.

FHI issued a press release yesterday about the first month of XV sales in Japan. They sold more than four times their monthly target. I found it interesting that 82.3% of the XVs sold were equipped with EyeSight.

Wake Up, SOA.

Test drove. I have zero clue where people get the idea this particular vehicle is underpowered/unsafe.

Maybe because 82.3% of the XVs built for Japan had EyeSight? They have had it over there for quite a while and it's been on all their main models for a couple years also. Doesn't surprise me. We're getting it. Won't take long before everything here has it.
