Default wheel spacer questions

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of getting wheel spacers to push my wheels out a little bit for a better "stance". Not HerraFrush or anything but just to make it look a little better. I currently am running 17X7 rims with a +48 ET with 225-45 tires
Questions:
1)You can not run different offsets on an AWD vehicle, correct? Eg./38 ET in the front 33 ET in the back.
2)What happens to the ride/steering/wheel bearings when you get spacers? Eg./Change the offset. I've heard so many different opinions just looking to clarify.
3)Do you need extended lugs or different lugnuts when using spacers?

I'm thinking of getting 10 mm spacers but am not quite sure if or how I should go about it. This is my DD and don't plan on tracking it or AutoX'ing

Any input is greatly appreciated. Even flames lol.

Thanks,

Austin

No flaming, but I will suggest you do a search on offset in the VIC forums... Jason at Dale's has covered this before, and it's a pretty complete reference if you're curious. Both himself, alcoolaid, and a few others make a number of points that you can consider before deciding on what the best course of action is.

EDIT: Nevermind, I tried searching for it myself, and I've lost the thread... I have no idea where it was. Maybe Jason or someone else knows where it went... I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy, and we covered this already...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I think I found the thread and it seemed to answer my #2 question but not either #1 or 3.
I didn't even think of searching "offset" before, only "spacer." Duh

From my research, you really shouldn't put any more than a 3mm spacer on stock studs. You won't be grabbing enough threads with the lugnuts with anything thicker. So either go big and get bolt on 20mm ones that have their own new studs pressed in, or don't do anything.

As for #1, no you should not run different offsets/sizes/widths on our AWD drivetrains.

As for #2, depends on how much you space the wheels out

Link to the thread pls? I would like to know as well.

As far as #3 you definitely need extended studs and open ended lugnuts with 10mm bolt on spacers, theres not enough threads on our stock studs to safely mount the wheels. You need about 7 full rotation of the lugs to be safe (will edit and post links ive dug up when i get on my computer later) however people have had success running 5mm spacers on stock studs. But i'd recommend getting extended studs still.
Goodluck!

1) It won't kill you. I ran different offsets for quite a while on my GD and I had no issues. I ran a 5mm spacer up front to clear my Brembos. (effectively, +33 up front, +38 rear). I tracked my GD quite heavily and daily drove it.

2) Looks like you've found your answer based on your reply =)

3) No, you can use whatever cone seated lugs you own. R.Reyes brought up the 7 full turns, I believe it's actually 8 which you cannot achieve with a 5mm spacer and stock studs. I believe the # of turns was barely 6. However, on the same breath, a lot of people have ran 5mm spacers on stock studs and had zero issues. Your call.

I believe there are certain 10mm spacers which have built in studs which may be an option for you if you don't want to deal with extended studs.

Please take the above with a grain of salt though. What worked for me with zero issues may not for you.

I've researched this myself as we'll in the past.
If u don't "value" your current wheels and have money to burn, it's a safer and better bet to go with a new set of wider wheels.

P.s. I wanted 10-15mm for my stock BBS to give my winter look for flush.

Yep, that's the one I meant... Somehow I thought Jason started it, and I thought there was more. Oh well. At least you found it... hopefully that answered the other questions too.

Yes, you can. Not recommend tho.

If you get 10 mm spacers, you need to swap the studs. If you get 15mm, then you can go with wheel adaptors/spacers.

Thank you. Very concise. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for

care to elaborate why no recommend.

I believe that drive trains will only bind up/have issues due to difference in tire diameter. I fail to see how different offset will affect that in the slightest.
