Question When to change the timing belt?

I have a 1999 Impreza wagon with 63,000 miles. I just had the 60k service a month ago and was told by four different dealers that the timing belt needed to be changed at 60k. After the service the dealer who did the work said it was 105k when it needed to be changed.

My question is a.) Has anyone else experienced this ambiguity? and b.) which is it; 60 or 105.?

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

If you have your owners manual it should tell you on there. If you don't have that, I think you can go to www.mysubaru.com ,put in your VIN number, etc.. and get your home page going. I think they have an on-line owners manual that would give you service intervals for this type of stuff. I know the '99 2.5RS was 100K, but I am not sure about the 2.2L.

2.2 - 60k. Make sure you get the right belt (california vs federal)

The factory recomended change interval for the 2.5 liter EJ25 engine is 60K. Off the record most dealerships will tell you that you are fine changing the belt at 90K. Personally, I would stick with the factory recomendation.

2.2 had solid lifters at the end of their production run. Adjustment is at 105k miles.
