2 More NASA Time Trial Victories, APR Performance & M Series Testing
NASA HPDE/race, Willow Springs International Raceway
July 8-9 2006: NASA HPDE 4/race, Willow Springs Raceway, California The Crawford Performance’s Team suits up at Willow Springs International Raceway for the 6th round of the 2006 Nasa Time Trial Series. While being another NASA Time Trial weekend we are now in the final stages of testing for the M (monster) series engines. Testing started over 3 years ago with the first trial runs at Pikes Peak in 2003. To begin the weekend we drove the Crawford STi from Oceanside California to Rosamond, CA. While the elevation changes of more than 7000 feet tested the handling and drivability on the road, the average weekend temps of 100+ degrees Fahrenheit tested the durability and reliability of the 500 wheel horsepower Crawford STi on the track. Saturday we woke up at 7am to prep the car for the track and prepare for full day of 100+ degree temperatures. This made for one of the hottest track events we have been to, to date. With sizzling tires, and speeds in excess of 150+ mph we took 1st place with a time of 1:29.6 nearly breaking last years best time. Sunday turned out to be only a little hotter, but the competition was not backing down for a moment. Pressing on driver Dr. Russ Warr’s heels, Warr but set a blistering time of 1:30.1 in the heat of the morning, in turn setting the time to beat for the day. By the end of the day no one could catch the time the Crawford STi took 1st place for the 2nd day of competition. With some recent modifications to the aerodynamics and motor, including the APR Canards, Front Lip and Rear Wing, driver Dr. Russ Warr stated, "the STi was far more stable at high speeds than ever before and gripped the corners with serious G-Force enabling faster and more consistent lap times." Inside the engine bay, the M series proved it worth by leaving scorch marks on the corner exits and blasting down the straight a way over 150+ mph. Conquering temperatures of over 100+ degrees, 150+ mph on the front straight away and finishing 1st two days in a row places the M series engines into the spotlight. With the superior rod ratio of the Billet Stroker Crank the final release of the M series engine is just around the corner, prepare yourself for the next level of Crawford short blocks.
