First off, does SunOS 5 even have multimedia support??

libgtk-1.2 <---- you need that package off the CD (or whatever)

Brian,

You can get packages for the Sun boxes from
http://www.sunfreeware.com

You're missing libgtk1.2 or you're missing the
path to it in your environment setup

echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH

if you don't see the path to where that .so file lives, you need to add it.

Most LD_LIBRARY_PATHS look a little like this
/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib

If you're using bash shell. to set this do
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/whatever to gtklib; export LD_LIBRARY PATH

If you're using a different shell, well...i use tcsh, but i don't wanna post.

If you need anymore help email [email protected] and you'll find me faster than this forum.

I admin sun boxes everyday

Or i'm sure there are some other cute GUI utilities out there, but check your path.

Therein lies your problem.

For other utilities...you might try
www.freshmeat.net

Only thing i can think of is xamp and it doesn't sound right.

you need GTK installed. The XMMS might be there, but GTK doesn't sound like it is. Try running "gtk-config --version". if it works, you have GTK installed, and it will tell you the version. If it doesn't work, you don't have it installed, or perhaps its not configured properly. It's looking for version 1.2.x.
Let us know what you find out... if you're on AIM, you can msg me at mrbell321
that'd make this easier to troubleshoot. good luck

Also, if you're not necessarily hooked on xmms, I'd suggest mpg123. It's a text-based program that works pretty darned well (it's my mp3 player of choice).

find / -name insertgtk.so.namehere -print

you prolly wanna do this as root

or just look for the .so file
It's prolly in

/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib

I told ya how to add it to your path already.
