cel after installing APS TMIC with cobb 2.5
Ok over the weekend I installed an APS TMIC the older version. Now today just driving down the street the cel pops on and I pull over to check the code. I believe it was the PO171 lean A/F code.
Would the IC alone cause me to run a little lean? Or should I be looking for a hose that is leaking? Car seems to run fine haven't heard any knock. I think I'll switch to econo mode for now just in case.

I would not recommend using the economy mode as a "safe" alternative. It may run leaner than the regular maps in order to save fuel. Stick with your standard 30/34 map and just stay out of the boost. Running lean off boost is unlikely to cause major damage.

yeah I didn't switch it. I reset the ecu and am just waiting to see if it comes back. I did a quick look under the hood when I got home and didn't see anything and I tried pushing on any hoses that I could think of that I might have touched.
Would the TMIC cause it to run lean? I don't recall ever seeing anything that would make me think it would. I know cobb says that if you use one just to watch for boost spikes and egt's, but nothing about A/F |

I checked out the service manual for the code, here's some things to check:
Check for holes, loose bolts or disconnection of hose on air intake system Check Mass Air Flow and Intake Air Temp sensors |

how much boost are you getting?? What about EGT's?? Check the system for post MAF leaks like previously mentioned.

boost seems to be normal. Unfortunatly I don't have an EGT gauge. So a MAF leak is anything associated with the turbo inlet hose? I didn't really touch anything over there, but I guess I could have pulled it from the other end trying to get the IC to fit. I had a pretty hard time with it. I bought it used and it didn't have the proper brackets so I had to fuss with it quite a bit bending my stock brackets. The only thing I can think of is that I had to move the drivers side bracket over and it now kind of rest on a large vac hose that goes into the brake booster. That couldn't cause this kind of problem could it? I've been keeping a close eye on it and it seems to be fine, it's just that the bracket is resting on it and that does have me a bit worried for the long run. I just don't have the time or light to look now and I'm going out of town for the weekend so it will have to wait for a complete check down. I'm just trying to find out which hoses I should be consentrating on so I don't waist my time.

a post maf leak is a leak anywhere after your MAF sensor, and will allow unmetered air into your intake stream. This will cause your engine to injest more air than it thinks it has and cause your afr to run leaner than it's supposed to.

ok thanks. I'm just going to have to search hose by hose and see if any thing is loose to the touch and after that well I'm not sure what to do. Hopefully it won't come to that. I wonder if the cold crappy weather we were having today could have had anything to do with it?

ok I'm pretty sure I found it. I had to move the right hand bracket over to make it fit and in doing so it left the bracket pushing on the brake booster vac hose. After the light came back on today I did more looking and I could now hear the leak.
The bracket had cut the hose and air was leaking out like crazy. So I'd be pretty surprised if this isn't it. |

no unfortunatly the sun was down and it was cold as hell. I'm just glad my brakes didn't fail, although i guess the worst that could have happend is no power brakes. I'ts been a few days now and the cell hasn't returned so looks like I fixed it. I had to cut the drivers side bracket so it wouldn't happen again. |
