If you are referring to the DRL control module, it is no longer located to the RH side of the glove-box. It has been integrated into another module inside of the vehicle.

If you are referring to the resistor, it should be mounted to a bracket that is bolted to the passenger's side strut-tower. But, because several items have been redesigned/relocated on the 2007 model, I may be incorrect.

Thanks for the replies. I checked and it's not there, see pic, so the search continues.

I'll see if I can locate the original one from my car and take pics of it for you.

Yes, it appears that the resistor has been relocated on the 2007 model.

Why would Subaru make a change from '06 to '07 on this part? There were minor changes to the model years - '07 models have an aux input for the radio. The DRL change seems unwarranted.

It is possible that since Japan's build releases are usually a year ahead of the USDM and/or because they don't want people to fiddle with the DRL that they redesigned/moved it.

I know that the DRL control module was to the RH side of the glove-box up through 2006 and in 2007 it was effectively integrated into another component/module under the driver's side dash.

Your explanation sounds plausible. I had a 2004 model before my '06, and both DRL relays were on the RH side under the dashboard. Both were removed the instant I acquired the cars. For 2007, it seems to be a PITA to disable the DRLs.

So LB Relay (Black) Wire #1 is the yellow/red. Wire #5 is Black
So HB Relay (Blue) Wire #1 is red. Wire #4???

On the blue relay the diagram on the top shows no #4. Can anyone help??? Is what I have so far correct? Im currently driving around without a glovebox. lol

You have a PM.

I have updated my original response at post #2 to clarify this.

Hey waynlewis,

if your listed vehicle is correct on your post, you have a STI. If my memory serves me correctly, on the 07 WRX, which is what I have, there is a resistor that sits in the engine bay. If your picture, it would have been where that silver bracket hanging out next to your heat shield with two holes. On the STI they do not have that resistor. I do not know where it is. According to wiring diagrams that I have seen, it is part of the wiring somewhere under the steering column.

I hope this helps.

The STI has an HID relay in place of the resistor; the STI HID's are not dropped down by a resistor as is the case with non-STI models that have traditional incandescent lamps. I should have looked at his original post noting that he has an STI.

I will take a look at the schematics tonight.

Big-E, soju1,
Thanks a lot for your help in trying to figure this out. I printed out the wiring diagram from the service manual cd that I have, pages WI-119 thru 121 for STI, and pages WI-116 thru 118 for the WRX. On page 116(WRX) I can see the DRL resistor(B5) and as noted on the STI it's gone or integrated somewhere else. Also, the relays B102 and B103 are there in both but use different color code wires, and a added relay to the STI is the HID relay B371. I've located both B102 and B103 behind the passenger kick panel.
And that's all I got. Thanks again. If I can make this mod happen, then that's cool. If not, then not.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the dead, but I had a question. I have retrofitted bixenon HID projector headlights and was wondering if this high-beam DRL mod would work. I'm sure it would, but I was wondering how it would affect my bixenon high-beams. Right now, the way they work is that the projector shield has wires that tap into the OEM high beam wires. So whenever the OEM high beams turn on, the projector shield is moved and the level of light in the bixenons raised. I was hoping that I could run this high-beam DRL mod without constantly having my bixenon projector shield switched on. Was worried about its reliability if it's constantly "engaged". What do you guys think? Is it not worth worrying about? Is there some sort of modification I can put on the bixenon wiretaps (resistor?) so that they won't allow any current through unless it is the full current from the OEM highbeams and not the smaller amount from the DRLs? I am no electrical engineer so any help would be great. Thanks!

I'm at work so I can't put too much effort into this at the moment.

In short, a bypass would have to be put into place.

My thoughts are a relay would have to be used as the bypass. When the actual lowbeam headlamps are off, the relay would also be off (open) thus not allowing the DRL-highbeam to activate the projector-shield.

Once the actual lowbeam headlamps are turned on, the relay would be on (closed) allowing for the projector-shield to be engaged when the highbeams (not DRL-highbeams) are turned on.

Well, that sounds like it would work just fine. My retrofitted headlights have a relay, but I wonder if it is off (open) when my headlights aren't turned on... So would flashing the high-beams while the headlights are off be a way to test this? If the relay is open, then the projector bixenon high-beams shouldn't turn on when I flash the high-beam switch with the headlights off, right?

Since I have as of yet had the opportunity to perform a retro-fit myself, I need to know how your kit works.

Since you have a shutter control, I would presume there are at least three wires, if not four? Two for the HID's (power and ground) and at least a power control for the shutter and if not, a power and ground for the shutter?

Once I know these parameters, I can then come up with a viable solution.

Thanks, Big-E! My retrofit was done by Lightwerkz. The relay I was speaking of in my previous post is the relay that the Lightwerkz harness attaches to. I'll try to look up specs and maybe take some pics of the wiring and get back to you. All I can remember off the top of my head from the install was that there was a red (+) cable that attaches to the positive terminal of the battery, a black (-) cable that I used as a ground, one cable for each of the headlight ballasts, and one cable that I connected to the OEM port on the back of one of the headlight housings (I think for connection when I switch on the headlights). All the wires connected to the relay so I'm not sure how the electrical path moves. Also, the bixenon projector high beam shield wires (2 wire taps from each headlight that come out from behind the projector) were tapped into the OEM high-beam wires.

Ok, then the shutter control has it's own power and ground.

I'll still think about this. As of late, I've had to put in more overtime at work so I haven't been getting back to the miscellany.

I did take a look and I'm still thinking about it. I'm going to talk to a friend and see if I can get ahold of his 2007 STI to get a closer look at the HID set-up.

just performed this mod today on my 2006 WRX, instructions on post #2, perfect instructions! Also installed the 2008 resistor, thanks so much Big-E!!!

When installing the newer 2008 resistor onto the 2006 bracket, I had to grind off one of the threaded bolts since the 2008 resistor is wider than the stock one.

08 DRL resistor is down near the right fog light. Actually there was a really easy post to convert DRLs on 08+ from high beams to fogs, and it bypasses the resistor. Looks great IMHO, prevents the yellowish deposit on high beam bulbs, and makes the fogs do something useful for once
